FBI Director Kash Patel exposed a fraudulent, treasonous public official who had worked as an aide for both current New York Governor Kathy Hochul and her predecessor, the disgraced Governor Andrew Cuomo, while acting as a foreign agent alongside her husband on behalf of China and receiving millions in kickbacks in exchange for information and the facilitation of contracts that made Chinese companies a fortune.
For background, on June 26, 2025, The New York Post reported that Linda Sun, along with her husband, Chris Hu, had made as much as $8 million from a fraudulent scheme that centered around the facilitation of contracts between the state of New York and Chinese-based PPE (personal protective equipment) companies during the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, the Post confirmed that one of the companies was run by Hu, while the other was operated by Sun’s second cousin.
In response to the massive fraud committed by Sun and her husband, FBI Director Kash Patel issued a statement on X on June 27, 2025, saying, “While Americans were locked down and desperate for PPE, Linda Sun and Chris Hu cashed in – allegedly lining their pockets while serving CCP interests.” The director added, “While Americans were locked down and desperate for PPE, Linda Sun and Chris Hu cashed in – allegedly lining their pockets while serving CCP interests.”
Continuing, Director Patel made the case that Sun and Hu’s scheme “is corruption that endangered lives,” adding, “The FBI will not tolerate public officials who sell out their country.” Responding in the comments section on X, conservatives were outraged. One X user with the handle Z wrote, “Who doesn’t the CCP own in our government at this point?” Another commenter added, “Lock them up and make an example out of them.”
Furthermore, press accounts previously confirmed in September 2024 that Sun and Hu had received additional millions from the Chinese government while Sun was simultaneously serving as the governor’s aide and acting at the behest of the Chinese Communist Party, leading her and her husband to face charges of violating and conspiring to violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act, visa fraud, money laundering, and alien smuggling. The two were later hit with new bribery charges after their COVID-era scheme was revealed.
After their arrest in September 2024, Sun and Hu both pleaded not guilty to all charges, despite an indictment that claimed that Sun “received substantial economic and other benefits from representatives of the PRC government and the CCP, including the facilitation of millions of dollars in transactions for the PRC-based business activities of Sun’s husband, the defendant Chris Hu.”
Moreover, while leaving court, Sun’s lawyer, Jarrod Schaeffer, said that Sun was “understandably upset that these charges have been brought,” adding, “we are looking forward to addressing the allegations in the proper venue, which is in court.” However, prosecutor Alexander Solomon reportedly described Sun and Hu’s scheme as “no ordinary financial fraud” after revealing that Sun and Hu’s fraudulent web had included 80 different financial accounts.

Additionally, according to the New York Post, a spokesperson for Gov. Hochul’s office claimed that Sun had been fired in March 2023 “after discovering evidence of misconduct, immediately reported her actions to law enforcement and have assisted law enforcement throughout this process.” Likewise, a spokesperson for former Gov. Cuomo claimed that Sun “worked in a handful of agencies and was one of many community liaisons who had little to no interaction with the governor.”
