Congress Considers Criminal Referrals Over DOGE-Discovered Fraud and Corruption

In another major win for MAGA, the House Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE) Subcommittee is considering criminal referrals for individuals who have allegedly misused U.S. foreign aid, with subcommittee Chair Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) saying that she believes that woke agencies like USAID need to be investigated further.

For context, during a DOGE subcommittee hearing on February 26, 2025, the DOGE Subcommittee held a hearing that was opened with a statement from Chair Marjorie Taylor Greene titled “America Last: How Foreign Aid Undermined U.S. Interests Around the World.” In her statement, Rep. Greene highlighted the questionable practices of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which Rep. Greene said was funneling money to terrorist organizations. Furthermore, during the hearing, the Republican representative called for “criminal referrals” based on the alleged misuse of USAID funds.

In her statement, which was shared by the DOGE Subcommittee as a press release, Rep. Greene began by saying that DOGE had “uncovered billions of dollars that have been weaponized in furtherance of globalist, far-left ideologies.” Continuing, the representative said, “The American people want change. The American people voted for change.”

Furthermore, Rep. Greene described USAID as “Democrat-run,” and argued that the agency “should not get to use our federal government, our U.S. taxpayer dollars as their party piggy bank to push their radical agenda in countries that we have no business giving money to.” She added, “96% of all political contributions from USAID employees go to Democrat Party candidates or PACs.”

Building on her point, Rep. Greene presented statistics related to USAID money being sent to countries like Ethiopia, Jordan, and Somalia, and said, “So, after hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars have been distributed throughout the world, has the world become safer?” She answered, “No.”

Moving on, Rep. Greene praised President Trump for his response to the issue of taxpayer dollars supporting leftist causes, saying, “The election of President Trump was a clear mandate by the American people that they will no longer tolerate this.” She added, “He is putting an end to the foreign aid slush fund, ensuring that hardworking taxpayers’ dollars are supporting America First policies and taking care of our own people at home. And we will do the same!”

Later, during the hearing, Rep. Greene reportedly made a case for “recommending investigations and criminal referrals” and said, “Maybe we should consider investigating whether USAID funding has made it back to Democrat campaigns.” Continuing, Rep. Greene asked, “Has it affected elections? The real questions the American people deserve to know answers to are these.”

In addition, according to press accounts, Rep. Greene said that after the hearing, she was not ready to give the names of any targets of criminal referrals. However, Politico’s Hailey Fuchs noted that the Republican representative mentioned the questionable leadership practices of former USAID administrator Samantha Power.
