Congress Called Out for Being “On the Take” as Its “Crooks” Slow-Walk Codifying DOGE’s Massive Cuts

Conservatives are savagely calling out House Democrats — along with a few GOP members — for voting against DOGE cuts, making the case that it is extremely suspicious to push against reducing fraud, waste, and corruption within the federal government, which, as one X user put it, makes it look like they are “on the take.”

For context, in March 2025, press accounts confirmed that Congress would vote on the federal spending cuts and layoffs proposed by the Elon Musk-led DOGE (the Department of Government Efficiency), an agency dedicated to rooting out wasteful government spending. However, the vote was reportedly cancelled, leading House Republicans to propose a two-year runway to get the budget cuts passed.

When the delay in voting on recissions based on DOGE’s discoveries of fraud within the government came about, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) explained on X on May 7 2025, “This wasn’t widely covered in the news, so I will tell you: Congress was scheduled to vote on rescissions THIS WEEK to cut the waste that DOGE found, but the votes were quietly canceled.” He then added, “USAID and other programs like PBS and NPR were to be targeted.”

Not long after, conservatives began criticizing members of Congress for voting against DOGE cuts, with the X user Spitfire writing on May 14, 2025, “Let’s just call a spade a spade. Every single member of Congress voting against DOGE cuts is on the take. I think we can all agree that both sides are crooks.” In response, a user with the handle Cindy wrote, “💯. Takers on all sides. DOGE cuts must be codified asap. $37 TRILLION debt will continue to increase due to interest. Unsustainable. Congress needs to act……….”

The criticism of Congress members who voted against DOGE cuts continued on X, with the user Wayne Dunlap posting a hilarious meme captioned, “Mommy, why would anyone be against DOGE? Probably because those people have been stealing from the taxpayers for years and don’t want to give up their scam.”

Furthermore, one of the most vocal critics of the proposed DOGE cuts is Rep. Jared Moskovitz (D-FL) who told Politico on May 13, 2025, that he was “concerned FEMA won’t be able to function this summer” in response to possible reduced funding for the agency, adding, “I’m concerned FEMA won’t be able to function this summer. The president is right that FEMA needs reform. But the elimination of FEMA is absolutely wrong and will devastate red states more than blue states.”

In a similar vein, Rep Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) also spoke out against DOGE in a March 5, 2025, press release, calling the agency’s work “not normal” and calling for acts of “righteous resistance,” adding, “I participated in a walk-out of the joint address to Congress because we refuse to normalize the reckless and illegal dismantling of vital federal programs, the firing of thousands of Americans, and the undermining of our national and global security.

According to press accounts, resistance from representatives like Reps. Stansbury and Moskovitz has made it difficult to enact DOGE’s proposed spending cuts, leading an anonymous White House representative to tell Politico on May 14, 2025, “The procedures of Capitol Hill may not allow for it to happen now but it doesn’t mean it won’t happen later.”
