CNN Humiliated, Forced to Report 4th of July Gas Prices Hit a Four-Year Low

CNN was forced to eat its words when it reported on the fact that under President Trump, gas prices have hit a four-year low, which White House Director of Communications Steven Cheung described as “THE TRUMP EFFECT” in a post on X.

For background, on June 30, 2025, CNN aired a segment on gas prices, describing them as “pretty low” and “significantly cheaper” than the previous Fourth of July weekend. When Breitbart’s John Nolte commented on the segment, he opined that CNN “must have been dying more than a little inside” when they were forced to report on a major economic win for the Trump Administration.

During the segment, CNN’s John Berman and Matt Egan weighed in on the dip in gas prices, with Egan saying, “This is good news because it should be relatively cheap to fill up your tank this holiday weekend.” He added, “So, Gas Buddy is projecting that the national average is going to be $3.10 to $3.15 a gallon. That is significantly cheaper than $3.49 a gallon last Fourth of July.”

Continuing, Egan said that Americans are spending “about half a billion dollars less on gasoline this holiday weekend vs. last,” adding, “And when we look at the trend, you can see that gas prices, they spiked three years ago.” He continued, “This was, we’re looking at almost $5 a gallon on Fourth of July, right? That was a nightmare, trending lower since then.”

Furthermore, the White House provided additional background on the four-year record in an article published on June 27, 2025, saying, “Americans are seeing the cheapest summertime gas prices since 2021 — more than 20 cents lower than one year ago — as President Donald J. Trump delivers on his promises of lower prices, stable inflation, and higher wages.”

Moreover, the White House quoted an article from another left-leaning outlet, the New York Times, which was also forced to admit President Trump’s positive impact on the economy: “Summer road trips appear to be safe from a big spike in gasoline prices. The national average price of gasoline has hovered around $3.20 a gallon this week after Israel and Iran agreed to a cease-fire … And it is more than 20 cents lower than a year ago. ”

Likewise, the Wall Street Journal also reported on the four-year record low in gas prices, noting that the reduced prices “would be a boon for consumers during the warmer months when Americans drive more. The outlet added, “Low energy prices so far this year have already contributed to the economy’s resilience and helped keep inflation in check.”

When White House Communications Director Steven Cheung posted the CNN segment on low gas prices on X, he wrote, “THE TRUMP EFFECT: Gas prices are at a 4-year low record as Americans go into the 4th of July weekend, all thanks to President Trump’s policies.” In response to his comments, conservatives celebrated, with one commenter writing, “Went down 12 more cents where I live. Crazy for it to drop in the summer. It usually goes up before a holiday.”
