“Sound of Freedom,” produced by Angel Studios, recently took the top spot at the U.S. box office on the 4th of July, when the film was released to theaters nationwide. The movie also stars Christian actor Jim Caviezel in a plot that addresses the evils of human trafficking and its impact on children.
According to Angel Studio’s summary of the plot, “Sound of Freedom is a true story film that exposes the darkness of child trafficking. A federal agent saves a boy from traffickers, but his sister is still captive. He embarks on a dangerous mission, risking his life to free her from a fate worse than death.”
“Sound of Freedom” is crushing the box office in just a few days, sitting at the number one spot. Meanwhile, films from prominent studios such as Disney have completely flopped. For example, “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” has drastically underperformed, especially when compared to the box office results of past movies in the franchise.
The American Tribune reported on the newest Indiana Jones’ disappointing opening at the box office, where the film only brought in somewhere between $6 to $7.5 million in revenue. This performance was worse than “The Flash,” which is now considered one of the biggest movie flops in recent history. Since the June 30 opening, “The Dial of Destiny” has brought in under $12 million in earnings.
In contrast, the Angel Studios film has earned $14.2 million in box office revenue. “Sound of Freedom” garnered $11.5 million in direct ticket purchases alongside $2.6 million in “pay it forward” tickets, where someone pays for free tickets to be claimed at movie theaters by others. So far, the movie has sold almost 1.5 million tickets when writing this article.
“Sound of Freedom” also has the noble goal of selling two million tickets to shed awareness on the 2 million children who are affected by child trafficking around the world. Angel Studio’s website says, “Why a 2 million ticket goal? To symbolize our commitment to the 2 million trafficked children around the world.”
According to CEO of Angel Studios Neal Harmon, “Thanks to fans around the country, ‘SOUND OF FREEDOM’ earned the top spot as America’s number one movie on Independence Day,” He continued, “We’ve received numerous messages telling us theaters are either packed or sold out. This movie has now taken on a life of its own to become something more than that, a grassroots movement. With an A+ CinemaScore rating, we’re the top-rated movie in America, and we’re going to see word-of-mouth spread even further going into the weekend.”
The smashing success of a movie starring a famous, outspoken Christian actor with a plot that actually addresses a tangible real-world problem instead of some nonsensical woke cause is a promising sign for the entertainment industry. It suggests there is a demand among consumers for content that represents something meaningful and is produced by studios that share their values.
Similar to the powerful boycotts against companies like Bud Light and Target, consumers have yet again voiced their preferences with their wallets. Check out the trailer for the movie below.
