In a series of posts on his Truth Social social media platform, former President Donald Trump declared his support for Gov. Abbott of Texas as Abbott’s Texas defies the federal government and defends its border, in some cases by excluding federal officials to keep them from processing migrants or cutting barbed wire border barriers. Trump also called on the states to provide support for Gov. Abbot.
In the first post, Trump declared that he and his Administration had acted to strongly defend the border, much in contrast to how it has remained shockingly porous under Biden. Commenting on that, he wrote, “When I was President, we had the most secure Border in History. Joe Biden has surrendered our Border, and is aiding and abetting a massive Invasion of millions of Illegal Migrants into the United States.”
Continuing, the former president called out President Biden for focusing on trying to restrain Gov. Abbott rather than trying to staunch the flow of illegal immigrants across the border. Doing so, he wrote, “Instead of fighting to protect our Country from this onslaught, Biden is, unbelievably, fighting to tie the hands of Governor Abbott and the State of Texas, so that the Invasion continues unchecked.”
Next, Trump explained that he thinks Texas was right to act as it did in such a dangerous and extreme situation. In fact, Trump seemed to agree with Gov. Abbott that an invasion is occurring. He said, “In the face of this National Security, Public Safety, and Public Health Catastrophe, Texas has rightly invoked the Invasion Clause of the Constitution, and must be given full support to repel the Invasion.”
But Trump didn’t stop with praising Texas for its strong stand on the border. In a second post about the situation, he went so far as to declare that other states should join Texas in trying to stem the tide of illegal immigration and stop the aforementioned “invasion.” Numerous red state governors have already done so, some even pledging support for Texas.
In that second post, Trump first called on states to join Gov. Abbott in deploying resources to the border and to work on deporting illegal immigrants. He wrote, “We encourage all willing States to deploy their guards to Texas to prevent the entry of Illegals, and to remove them back across the Border.”
Continuing, he framed what Texas is doing not as a radical measure, but as “commonsense measures” that are necessary to protect the lives and rights and Texans and Americans generally. Doing so, he wrote, “All Americans should support the commonsense measures by Texas authorities to protect the Safety, Security, and Sovereignty of Texas, and of the American people.“
He then explained what he will do once elected to reverse the inflood of illegal immigrants that has occurred under Biden, writing, “When I am President, on Day One, instead of fighting Texas, I will work hand in hand with Governor Abbott and other Border States to Stop the Invasion, Seal the Border, and Rapidly Begin the Largest Domestic Deportation Operation in History. Those Biden has let in should not get comfortable because they will be going home.”
