One of the best things about Elon Musk’s Twitter is that not only can people generally express their real opinions without fear of the ban hammer striking them down now, but also Democrats get hit with the “Community Notes” fact-checks when they say something that’s not quite true.
Such has already happened to Biden, most famously when he tweeted out about how proud he was that Social Security benefits had been raised and Community Notes informed everyone that the increase was an automatic adjustment caused by the persistently high Bidenflation.
And now Biden has gotten fact-checked on Twitter yet again, with the Community Note this time noting that his characterization of the Fair Tax Bill that Republicans have proposed is far from fair.
In the tweet, President Joe Biden said “House Republicans have proposed a new 23% national sales tax on American families, increasing the prices of everything from groceries and gas to food and medicine. American families need more breathing room. Not less.”
In response, the community note said “While the bill does institute a 23% national sales tax, it also eliminates the income tax, payroll tax, and estate tax. It also includes a number of refunds and credits in chapter 2, and further refunds and rebates for families in chapter 3.”

Commenters on Twitter pushed back as well.
Conservative commentator Tim Young, for example, said “And it would replace income tax, which would be much better for everyone.”
Similarly, RNC Research’s Tommy Piggot said “Families have less breathing room because of Joe Biden. His destructive, inflationary agenda has made Americans poorer than when he took office.”
Joining in the Biden bashing was Libby Emmons of The Post Millennial, who said “What he doesn’t tell you is that this sales tax would REPLACE “all personal and corporate income taxes, the death tax, gift taxes, and the payroll tax” with a flat 30% “consumption” tax. Like it or don’t like it, but at least portray your opposition honestly, Mr. President.”
Then there was NFL linebacker Boomer Mays, who said “Explain to me why the prices of eggs are high??….let me guess Putin took all the chickens?” As a side note, egg prices are high right now because of avian flu decimating the chicken population, not necessarily because of inflation or a sales tax.
And putting things quite plainly was former Congressional candidate Josh Barnett, who said “Amazing how he just continues to lie. His whole life has been a lie. It’s remarkable.”
Biden isn’t the only Democrat to get hit by Community Notes. House Minority Leader did as well, with Community Notes saying, in response to a Hakeen Jeffries tweet claiming “Extreme MAGA Republicans have established a Select Committee on Insurrection Protection. We will fight it tooth and nail” that, in reality, “The actual committee is the “Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government”, chaired by Representative Jim Jordan, Republican of Ohio. It was passed 221-211 with all Democrats opposed.”
