On the 4th of July holiday, President Joe Biden delivered remarks on the White House lawn to commemorate America’s independence. However, the president has drawn further concern about his mental fitness, displaying similar behavior to the disastrous presidential debate against former President Donald Trump, which has sent the Democratic Party into a panic.
“So we’re honored. So many of your families are here this special day. I really mean it. You represent only 1% not quite 1% of the American population, but you keep 99% of the rest of the population safe,” Biden said during a barbeque with military service members. “We have many obligations as the government, but only one truly sacred obligation, sacred prepare those we send into harm’s way and to care for them and their families when they come home and when they don’t, their families,” he continued.
During his comments, Biden appeared much more energetic than during last week’s debate. However, Biden still had many moments where he stumbled over words, slurred his speech, and struggled to coherently convey his message to the audience. At one point Biden trailed off during a sentence, while appearing criticize former President Donald Trump.
“We stand together as Americans. I believe we will and we can, and by the way, you know, I was in that World War One cemetery in advance, and the one that Mike, one of our colleagues, the former president, didn’t want to go and be up there. I probably shouldn’t say that … anyway,” appearing to reference unproven allegations about comments Trump had supposedly made.
Biden also made some confusing remarks about traffic “congestion,” claiming it was no longer an issue compared to the days when he used to be a senator. “One last thing, and I used to think when I was a senator, there were always congestion on the highways. There’s no congestion anymore. We go on the highway, there’s no congestion,” he said.
“And so what? The way they get me to stop talking, they’ll say, ‘We just shut down all the roads, Mr. President, you’re gonna lose all the votes if you don’t get in. But anyway, I’ll be back out,” he added before shuffling back toward the White House. At one point during the day, Biden proclaimed “Ho, ho, ho!” the phrase touted by Santa Claus, seemingly misplacing the phrase with Independence Day.
“Ho, ho, ho! Happy Independence Day! (Applause.) We got to do what our Founders did: show the world we’re a nation of dignity, honor, and de- — just devotion to one another. This is — no, I really mean it. Folks, it’s all about democracy. It’s all about freedom. It’s all about who we are. We’re the United States of America, and nothing like it exists in the world, ” Biden said, according to the White House transcript of his comments. “Happy Fourth of July! Enjoy the fireworks. God love you all. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
In the wake of the disastrous presidential debate, there have been ongoing calls from Democrats for Biden to step down and allow another candidate to take the reins. Many have lost faith in President Biden’s ability to inspire faith in American voters, many of whom believe he is not fit to serve a second term.
