In a shocking display of leftist hypocrisy, a group of activists stopped Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from arresting a known illegal alien child predator in the Denver, Colorado, area, with ICE later confirming on social media that the alien was convicted of and wanted in Italy.
For context, in a post on social media on June 21, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) explained that a group of their agents had been prevented from arresting a dangerous illegal immigrant criminal from El Salvador named Jose Reyes Leon-Deras, when a group of anti-ICE activists arrived on the scene and “allowed him to escape arrest.” Moreover, the agency urged anyone aware of Leon-Deras’ whereabouts to avoid approaching him and contact ICE.
Writing on Facebook, the ICE account explained that agents had been surveilling Leon-Deras on June 20 with assistance from the FBI, but that members of the activist group Colorado Rapid Response “arrived on scene and alerted him to law enforcement’s presence, which allowed him to escape arrest.” The post continued, “Groups like this interfere with ICE’s ability to keep communities safe.”
In addition, a Facebook post from the Colorado Rapid Response Network page on June 20, which was shared by ICE, appeared to verify the agency’s account of the incident. The post explained, “Volunteers confronted the ICE agents and used a bullhorn to to (sic) share their rights, ICE called the police to try and intimidate our volunteers.” The post continued, “Police arrived took the report and found no reason to ticket or arrest our volunteers who were not breaking any laws.”
According to its website, the Colorado Rapid Response Network (CORRN) “is committed to responding to raids, deportation, and any Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity happening across the state in our communities.” Moreover, the organization states that it formed “after Trump was elected in November of 2016.”
Importantly, the incident in Denver occurred on the same day that Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin fiercely criticized the leaders of so-called “sanctuary cities” in an appearance on Fox Business, describing sanctuary politicians as “playing Russian roulette with the lives of Americans.”
Continuing, Assistant Secretary McLaughlin argued that policies that protect illegal immigrants from ICE in cities like Denver are also “making it more dangerous for our law enforcement…and for the migrants themselves.” She added, “We can no longer go into these jails and pick up these criminals out of them. We actually have to go into the streets and get them.”

Furthermore, the assistant secretary said that, like they had in Denver with Colorado Rapid Response, ICE agents had faced resistance in Minnesota when “picking up a convicted child offender, a convicted child abuser.” She went on to explain that the illegal immigrant resisted arrest by taking a car and “driving…dragging our law enforcement 50 yards.” She concluded, “These are the monsters that these politicians are protecting.”
