Speaking during an appearance on CNN on Wednesday, July 17, amidst the network’s coverage of the Republican National Convention in Wednesday, July 17, Van Jones spoke out about the difference between former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden, noting that the former President is still going after being shot in the ear whereas Biden is out of action because of Covid.
As background, the White House announced on Wednesday, July 17, that President Biden had tested positive for Covid, and the White House released a statement on the matter, with White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre saying, “Earlier today following his first event in Las Vegas, President Biden tested positive for COVID-19. He is vaccinated and boosted and he is experiencing mild symptoms.”
Continuing, she added that Biden will remain in Delaware to recover, saying, “He will be returning to Delaware where he will self-isolate and will continue to carry out all of his duties fully during that time. The White House will provide regular updates on the President’s status as he continues to carry out the full duties of the office while in isolation.”
The President’s doctor also spoke on the matter, saying, “The President presented this afternoon with upper respiratory symptoms, to include rhinorhea (runny nose) and non-productive cough, with general mailaise. He felt okay for his first event of the day, but given that he was not feeling better, point of care testing for COVID-19 was conducted, and the results were positive for the COVID-19 virus.”
The doctor added, “Given this, the President will be self-isolating in accordance with CDC guidance for symptomatic individuals. PCR confirmation testing will be pending. His symptoms remain mild, his respiratory rate is normal at 16, his temperature is normal at 97.8 and his pulse oximetry is normal at 97%. The President has received his first dose of Paxlovid. He will be self-isolating at his home in Rehoboth.”
Van Jones used that announcement and Biden’s decision to head off to Delaware to attack him for being so frail as compared to Trump. Beginning on a positive note for the left, Van Jones noted that there is still some support for the president amongst normal Americans, saying, “There are a lot of people who want Biden to stay in. I want to just keep pointing out, there is still a grassroots love for Joe Biden.”
Continuing, he noted that Trump, who has appeared at the RNC in Milwaukee just days after getting shot, appears much better on the public stage due to that resilience, saying, “But today is a terrible day. If you pull back and look at this thing – strength versus weakness – a bullet couldn’t stop Trump, a virus just stopped Biden.”
Concluding, he said, speaking about the problems the Democrats currently have, ” You’ve got the nominees of this party getting their butts kissed. Biden’s getting his butt kicked by his own party. The Democrats are coming apart. The Republicans are coming together, that’s what’s happened. And at some point, this party has to look at the reality of that.”
