American “it” girl, actress — and registered Republican — Sydney Sweeney has a hobby that most folks would probably never guess: fixing up old cars. It’s the last thing that comes to mind for many, who are used to seeing Sweeney on the silver screen or modeling various clothing brands, particularly American Eagle jeans, an ad campaign that launched her to even greater heights of fame due to accusations of white supremacy.
However, as it turns out, Sweeney is just as comfortable with a wrench as she is giving emotional performances in films like Christy or her hit television series, Euphoria. The actress recently revealed that when she’s looking to get away from the chaos and madness of being famous, she likes to turn bolts on old vehicles, including the restoration of a classic Bronco.
Sweeney’s passion for grease and pumping engines all started during her childhood growing up in a small town in Idaho, where being into cars wasn’t the interest of a few backyard mechanics, but was deeply ingrained in the local culture. The modern-day American sex symbol says her interest in vehicles came from her close bond with her dad, who introduced her to the world of engines, oil changes, and muscle cars.
According to the Times of India, her interest in fixing cars wasn’t just a childhood phase or a means just to spend time with her father. It stuck with her throughout her life. When Sweeney isn’t filming a new project or attending award shows and glitzy events, she’s in the garage working on her vintage rides. Her dream project, which she has now completely rebuilt, is a cherry red 1969 Ford Bronco, which she proudly drives.
While the Hollywood sensation does occasionally post pictures of her progress on social media, it’s more so about finding a place to escape and be grounded. Sweeney revealed that she finds that in a world that is constantly on the go, working on her cars slows things down and gives her something she can firmly hold onto, a means of preventing burnout.
Another vehicle that Sweeney bought and rebuilt is a 1965 Mustang, though she stated she’s always on the lookout for old cars she can restore back to life. Most of the vehicles in her collection are good old-fashioned American muscle cars. Sydney even has an entire Instagram account dedicated to her garage where she puts into practice the skills she’s learned to fix engines, do custom paint jobs, and other repairs.

Sweeney was the subject of a massive controversy during the summer of 2025, when an American Eagle jeans ad featured her with a slogan that said, “Sydney Sweeney has good jeans,” which liberals interpreted as white supremacy, calling for a boycott of the company and its products. Much to their chagrin, the jeans ended up flying off the shelves.
In fact, the campaign was so successful, it caught the attention of President Donald Trump. The president wrote on his Truth Social account, “Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the HOTTEST ad out there. Go get ‘em Sydney!” In the same post, Trump hammered on Jaguar for taking the woke route instead of being bold like American Eagle. “Jaguar did a stupid, and seriously WOKE, advertisement, THAT IS A DISASTER,” he wrote.
