Fox News Channel is getting very well rewarded by consumers of cable for the entertaining shows it’s producing, particularly in the realm of comedy. Most recently, that took the form of FNC’s late-night comedy show, “Gutfeld!” dominating ratings on February 14th when it aired at 11 pm, drawing in a whopping 2.2 million viewers.
In doing so, it not only beat the program that precedes it, The Ingraham Angle, but also left its leftist competition at CNN and MSNBC dazed and in the dust. In fact, Gutfeld’s show, one which included an appearance by recently uncanceled Roseanne Barr, was only outdone in the get audience demographic (25-54-year-olds) by two other Fox News Channel programs: Tucker Carlson and The Five. As Trending Politics News reported:
In terms of overall ratings, Gutfeld! was the sixth most-watched cable news show, and the third most-watched show among viewers aged 25-54, trailing only Tucker Carlson and The Five, which is also co-hosted by Greg Gutfeld. During the 11 p.m. hour, Gutfeld! was the dominant program, leaving CNN far behind with a mere 371,000 viewers, while MSNBC scored 972,000 viewers.
Gutfeld and his show are doing so well that Fox News Channel bought a Super Bowl ad spot to highlight his show and declare him the “king” of cable.
It did so with a 15-second spot highlighting Gutfeld’s beloved show, “Gutfeld!.” In the advertisement, FNC labelled him the “new king of late night”, taking the crown from more traditionally popular late-night names such as Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, and Jimmy Kimmel. In that hilarious, clever ad, Gutfeld wore both a royal cape and crown while holding a royal scepter, walking in the Sun King-like garb toward a throne set up in an otherwise typical TV studio.
Plus, to add even more crowd appeal to the ad, Gutfeld’s French bulldog, which is named Gus, was featured in the ad. Gus was dressed in a matching outfit to Gutfeld’s and sit alongside him on the thrown. Check out the epic ad here:
And the recent victory with Roseanne’s appearance is just the latest in a string of ratings victories for Gutfeld. His show has consistently been a huge hit with audiences, as we reported, saying:
Gutfeld co-host’s the popular Fox News afternoon show “The Five” and hosts his own show at night “Gutfeld!” The comedian and political analyst has garnered two of the top three shows in cable news in the key 25-54 age demographic. Last week, “The Five” had a chart-topping 448,000 key demographic viewers. Tucker Carlson was in second place with 407,000 viewers while “Gutfeld!” landed in third at 379,000.
Furthermore, “The Five” has just become the most watched show in all of cable news. The flagship program has averaged a total audience of over 3 million viewers for the week ending January 22nd.
