Trump Threatens to Use the Insurrection Act to Crack Down on Sanctuary City

President Trump is done playing games with the sanctuary jurisdictions that continue to reject his orders and instead protect illegal aliens from federal immigration authorities. As such, he is not only stripping all sanctuary jurisdictions of all their funding starting on February 1, but is considering invoking the Insurrection Act to crack down on Minneapolis.

For reference, Minneapolis has effectively become ground zero for anti-ICE sentiment in America, as officers have been targeted in protests and attacks as it floods into the city to try to deal with the massive problem of not just illegal aliens protected by the state, but of the massive fraud scandals in which many Somali migrants in the state engaged.

That flooding into the state has given leftist protesters numerous ICE agents to target, and some of the anti-ICE riots have gotten violent, with one agent having to shoot and kill a leftist protester who allegedly tried to run him over, and another shooting occurred on Wednesday, January 14, when an illegal immigrant tried to violently resist arrest.

Adding to MAGA fury directed toward Minneapolis regarding those incidents, and the fraud scandal in general, is that Minneapolis law enforcement authorities are seen as having not done enough to step in and protect federal agents from potentially violent protesters even as the protests and anti-ICE demonstrations have grown well out of control, as shown by the repeated violent incidents.

As such, Trump announced on Truth Social that he might invoke the Insurrection Act to crack down on Minnesota. His invoking it would be the first time since the 1992 LA riots that it has been invoked, and would give the president the authority to deploy the military to restore order in Minneapolis, overriding the Posse Comitatus Act.

Announcing as much, the president said, “If the corrupt politicians of Minnesota don’t obey the law and stop the professional agitators and insurrectionists from attacking the Patriots of I.C.E., who are only trying to do their job, I will institute the INSURRECTION ACT, which many Presidents have done before me, and quickly put an end to the travesty that is taking place in that once great State. Thank you for you attention to this matter!”

Gov. Walz, in response, whined about the situation being “scary” in a statement posted to social media, saying, “Let’s turn the temperature down. Stop this campaign of retribution. This is not who we are.” he added, “And an appeal to Minnesotans: I know this is scary. We can — we must — speak out loudly, urgently, but also peacefully. We cannot fan the flames of chaos. That’s what he wants.”

Firing back at Gov. Walz, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson said, “Tim Walz, Jacob Frey, and Democrat leaders in Minnesota have done nothing but turn up the temperature, smear heroic ICE officers, and incite violence against them – all in defense of criminal illegal aliens.”

Jackson added, “In Minnesota, ICE has arrested rapists, drug traffickers, domestic abusers, and more, despite Democrat opposition. The Trump Administration will protect the American people and enforce the law without apology. The only statement Tim Walz should be making is an apology. He has repeatedly compared ICE officers to Nazis and lied about their important work, including in his speech just last night.”
