Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced on “Sunday Morning Futures” that DHS is deploying hundreds more federal agents to Minneapolis over the weekend to protect ICE and Border Patrol amid protests following the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good. Noem warned that violent acts or impeding operations against law enforcement are crimes and that violent left-wing protestors will face harsh consequences.
Additionally, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin defended the surge, noting that over 1,500 serious criminals had been arrested and vowing not to let rioters hinder safety efforts. However, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, in a New York Times op-ed, rejected the federal self-defense narrative as a “false” one demonizing Good, insisting she was simply trying to leave the scene
In any case, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem vowed, during her appearance on the Fox News show, that DHS will send hundreds more agents to Minneapolis on Sunday and Monday to allow Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol agents to do their work “safely.”
“If they conduct violent activities against law enforcement, if they impede our operations, that’s a crime, and we will hold them accountable to those consequences,” Noem said, reacting to violent protests over the last few weeks and the attack on an ICE officer in Minneapolis.
Adding her own thoughts, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News Digital, “Every single day our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line to arrest the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens from American communities. We will not let rioters slow us down from making Minnesota safe again—something Governor Walz and Mayor Frey REFUSED to do.”
Issuing his own over-the-top reaction, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey wrote an op-ed for The New York Times where he slandered the Trump administration for pushing a “false narrative” about the shooting and demonizing the rioters.
“The chaos that ICE and the Trump administration have brought to Minneapolis made this tragedy sadly predictable,” Frey whined, “I’ve watched multiple videos, from multiple perspectives — it seems clear that Ms. Good, a mother of three, was trying to leave the scene, not attack an agent.”

Fighting back, Secretary Noem took to social media to announce, “ICE isn’t the problem. The problem is sanctuary politicians and the violent criminal illegal aliens they protect. President Trump and this administration work to protect every single American and make sure that they can live in a safe community and can raise their kids without fear.”
Reacting to this cynical attack, various Trump officials, including Vice President JD Vance, issued supportive statements to ICE and DHS. “I want every ICE officer to know that their president, vice president, and the entire administration stands behind them,” the VP declared.
Continuing his comments, the popular former senator promised vengeance. “To the radicals assaulting them, doxxing them, and threatening them: congratulations, we’re going to work even harder to enforce the law,” he said.
In another statement, reacting to earlier Anti-ICE violence, he made similar points. “This administration will not be intimidated by lawlessness. We will stand by the FBI agents tracking down violent criminals, by the guardsmen, local police, and Marines restoring order, and by the ICE agents enforcing our immigration laws,” he vowed, “President Trump will not back down.”
