Democratic Blue State Assistant AG Gets Arrested, Charged after Bizarre Restaurant Incident

Special Assistant Attorney General Devon Hogan Flanagan, a Democrat who hails from the blue state of Rhode Island, got herself arrested after she and a friend trespassed at a restaurant, with police bodycam footage showing Hogan Flanagan’s bizarre reaction to her arrest as she was put in the back of a cruiser.

For background, on August 18, 2025, Assistant AG Hogan Flanagan and her friend Veronica Hannan were arrested outside the Clark Cooke House restaurant in Newport, Rhode Island, after the police were called to respond to a complaint about an “unwanted party” at the establishment. While the assistant attorney general denied that she and her friend were trespassing, the police determined otherwise.

According to coverage from WJAR, police encountered Hogan Flanagan and Hannan at the restaurant, and Hogan Flanagan told an officer, “I want you to turn your bodycam off. Protocol is that you turn it off. It’s a citizen request that you turn it off.” In response, the officer told the two, “They want you to leave. Let’s just leave.”

Moreover, in the background of the video, another officer could be heard asking a restaurant staffer, “Do you just want them out? Do you want them trespassed?” The worker replied, “Anything we can do. Trespass, yes.” Then, an officer told Hogan Flanagan and Hannan, “You’ve trespassed, and we’ve got to leave now, unless you want to be in handcuffs.”

Then, tensions quickly rose when Hogan Flanagan denied the claim that she and her friend were breaking the law, saying, “We’re not trespassing. You haven’t notified us that we’re trespassing.” The officer replied, “Let’s go. I don’t want to arrest you guys.” Hogan Flanagan then retorted, “You’re not going to arrest us.”

As the tension built even more, the officer implored the women to comply, saying, “So, let’s leave. We’ve got to go. We’ve got to go.” Hogan Flanagan shot back, “Your protocol is, if I ask you to turn off the body cam, you have to turn it off. That’s your protocol.” Hannan attempted to back up her friend, saying, “She’s a f—ing lawyer, so she knows.”

Holding his ground, the officer said that Hogan Flanagan’s order was “bulls— lawyer stuff,” adding, “So, that’s not true.” Hogan Flanagan replied, “I’m an AG. I’m an AG.” The officer, clearly irritated, said, “Good for you. I don’t give a s—. Let’s go.” Hannan then pleaded, “Please don’t put your hands on us.”

After the police had had enough, they handcuffed Hogan Flanagan, who repeated, “I’m an AG. I’m an AG.” She continued, “Buddy, you’re going to regret this. You’re going to regret it.” Hannan, who was also handcuffed and arrested, told the officers, “Get your f—ing hands off me.” Her lawyer later told reporters that Hannan was “overwhelmed and embarrassed” following the incident. On the other hand, when the press reached out to Hogan Flanagan, the person who answered the phone said, “No comment.”
