Dr. Phil Sounds Off on Woke Outrage Over the Sydney Sweeney Jeans Ad, Says He’s Going to Buy a Pair for Every Female Family Member of His to Show Support

Renowned talk show host Dr. Phil McGraw torched the left in response to the wave of woke backlash received by Sydney Sweeney’s ultra-viral “great jeans” ad collaboration with American Eagle, with Dr. McGraw calling the outrage “ridiculous” and vowing to “show support” for American Eagle by buying family members their jeans during a conversation with TV provocateur Bill Maher.

For background, during an appearance on “Real Time” with Bill Maher on August 8, 2025, Dr. Phil McGraw slammed the left for its collective reaction to actress Sydney Sweeney’s “Great Jeans” advertisement for American Eagle, saying that he was going to buy every female member of his family a pair of AE jeans to show his support for the actress and brand.

Speaking to Maher, Dr. Phil called out the absurdity of the woke left’s response to the ad, saying, “For people to go crazy over that ad and to, to say that they say she’s got good genes, and for them to say that’s the equivalent of the Holocaust, that this is the same as all of that, is an absolute insult.”

Continuing, McGraw called out the ridiculousness of comparing the ad to the atrocities of the Holocaust, saying, “Six million people were killed, six million. Jews were massacred and murdered, and they equate that to a blue jeans ad for a Hollywood actress?” Moreover, Dr. Phil said that he was going to “buy those jeans for every woman” in his family to “show support.”

Likewise, Maher weighed in on the left’s reaction to the revelation that Sydney Sweeney is a Republican, beginning by saying, “Sydney Sweeney came out as, not came out, she was exposed as a Republican. This is the 27-year-old big movie star now. She was on ‘Euphoria’ here on this network, and I think will be again, when that show comes on.”

Furthermore, Maher called Sweeney’s collaboration with American Eagle “controversial,” adding that when it was reported that she was a registered Republican, the mainstream media covered the revelation “like it was a scandal.” Maher went on, “I just got to say this is not where I want America to go. It is not a slur that someone is a Republican.”

Previously, on August 1, 2025, Dr. Phil elaborated on his thoughts about the viral ad during an episode of “The Dr. Phil Podcast,” saying, “Every time the woke left gets their feelings hurt, the thought police come out and start screaming Nazism, racism, sexism, and every other ism they can think of.” He added, “And here we go again.”

Building on his point, McGraw said that the American Eagle ad had been “slammed as Nazi propaganda,” attributing the backlash to “loudmouth activists that are making noise.” He added, “This is not about American Eagle being tone-deaf. It’s about some lunatic fringe once again losing its mind.” Later, Dr. Phil opined, “The phrases ‘good genes’ and ‘great genes’ maybe have historically been used in the language of eugenicists…I don’t really think the American buying public goes there.”
