Sen. Elizabeth Warren got savagely roasted by President Trump after she made the critical error of endorsing far-left New York mayoral contender Zohran Mamdani, leading the president to call Warren a “total lunatic” and brand Mamdani a “communist” based on his extremely progressive policies.
For background, on August 4, 2025, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) publicly praised NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani at a press conference, saying that Mamdani was embodying the “Democratic message” with his leftist policies. In response, President Trump torched the senator for her unbridled display of enthusiasm for Mamdani and went after the mayoral candidate as well while speaking to reporters at the White House on August 5.
Ripping into Sen. Warren, President Trump called the lawmaker a “total lunatic,” saying, “I watched this unatic Pochahontas…I don’t know what she’s on; she’s all jumping up and down. I’ve never seen anything like it.” Moreover, the president called out Sen. Warren for “supporting the communist mayor,” referring to Mamdani.
Continuing, President Trump made the case that based on Mamdani’s proposed policies, he is “not a socialist,” but rather is “a communist,” saying, “This is not a socialist mayor, this is a communist. If you look at some his policies and go back six months, you don’t even have to go back further than that.”
Furthermore, the president mused, “So, they want to put a communist in New York,” adding, “The good news is, we have a lot of power over that, because we’re the ones with the money. We send the money…it’s up to the White House. A lot of power in the White House.” He concluded, “When I watched her jumping up and down, talking about that, and supporting the communist…” President Trump, apparently at a loss for words, then changed the subject.
Indeed, Sen. Warren appeared to be completely enamored with Mamdani while speaking alongside him at the August 4 press conference, saying, “For me, New York City is the place to start the conversation for Democrats on how affordability is the central issue, the central reason to be a Democrat, and that delivering on it in meaningful, tangible ways that will touch working families is why we’re here.”
Furthermore, Sen. Warren said of Mamdani, “When someone stands up and says, ‘I will lead this city by making it more affordable — and here are my plans, real plans, plans to deliver on childcare, plans to deliver on housing, plans to deliver. We’re going to experiment. We’re going to try things on groceries.’ That is the Democratic message.”

Moreover, Mamdani told reporters during the event that he wanted to focus on affordability for New Yorkers, but did not go into detail about his specific plans for doing so. He said, “If we want this city to be a place where New Yorkers can raise their kids, then we have to make it so,” adding, “And the context that we are in today is one where, after housing, childcare is the cost that is pushing New Yorkers out of these five boroughs.”
