In some extremely eye-opening news out of the notoriously crime-ridden city of Baltimore, Maryland, new data has revealed that the city has seen a precipitous decline in homicides and other forms of violent crime ever since the voters threw out the progressive, Soros-backed prosecutor in 2022.
As background, the prosecutor at issue is State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby, who took office in 2015. Mosby ran on a hyper-progressive platform of not prosecuting low-level violent crime, and was a key player in charging the officers involved in the death of Freddie Gray, an incident that involved riots and many see as having led to what amounted to non-policing in the city.
Mosby was also financially backed by George Soros, the leftist billionaire who financially supports numerous far-left causes and politicians. In fact, when she ran in 2014 and once, she was one of the first far-left prosecutors whose campaigns he financially supported, as was noted in a highly important report on her record put together by the Heritage Foundation.
As soon as she entered office in 2015, Soros-supported Mosby began instituting her soft-on-crime prosecution stance, and violent crime in the city exploded, shooting up like a rocket. Homicides, for example, went from being around 229 a year in the eight years preceding her time in office to well over 330 a year, as Heritage reported.
Other forms of heinous violent crimes shot up as well, rising dramatically even before the 2020 riots caused a further decrease in policing around the nation that led to yet more crime. The stunning increase in crime reversed years of progress Baltimore had made in getting crime under control, and turned it into one of the most notoriously dangerous cities in the nation.
By July of 2022, voters had had enough of the Soros-connected chaos in their city, and threw Mosby out in a primary election that she lost to a saner Democratic rival, Ivan Bates. Bates pledged to crack down on violent crime, particularly by reversing Mosby’s non-prosecution policies and by bringing back harsher penalties for things like repeat violent crimes. The data appears to show that they got what they voted for. As the Washington Free Beacon notes:
In 2022, Mosby’s last year in office, Baltimore saw 334 homicides across the city. The next year, under Bates’s watch, that number dropped to 262. In 2024, it dropped further to 202 homicides. And during the first half of 2025, Baltimore saw just 68 homicides, a 62 percent drop from the same timeframe in 2022. Auto thefts are also down 34 percent, robberies are down 22 percent, and arson is down 10 percent in Baltimore so far in 2025 compared to the same timeframe last year.
Commenting on the matter to the Washington Free Beacon, a Maryland-focused public policy researcher named Sean Kennedy explained that the data surrounding the post-Mosby years in Baltimore have shown that proper policing and prosecution works at driving down violent crime, as could be expected.

Kennedy explained, in his comments to the outlet, “The numbers don’t lie. Ivan Bates’s model of targeting the most violent or violence-prone offenders (gun carrying criminals) is the primary driver of Baltimore’s miraculous success.” He added, “Homicides only started dropping when Bates came in and signaled that carrying guns meant prison.”
So, in throwing out their Soros-backed, rogue prosecutor and her extremely progressive ideas on how to deal with crime, voters managed to save themselves from huge amounts of violent crime in the ensuing years. Further, it appears that the policies are continuing to work in driving down such awful crime.
