Corrupt former Congressman George Santos (R-NY) has reported to prison to serve a sentence for fraud and identity theft, writing online that he was “leaving the stage” for now after pleading guilty to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft back in 2024, convictions that led to a seven-year prison sentence and a six-figure fine.
For background, on July 25, 2025, former New York Republican Congressman George Santos reported to a federal prison in New Jersey to start his seven-year sentence after he pleaded guilty to wire fraud and identity theft for defrauding political donors and stealing multiple identifies to get ahead politically.
Writing on X prior to serving his sentence, Santos posted a photo of himself blowing a kiss and said, “Well, darlings…The curtain falls, the spotlight dims, and the rhinestones are packed.” He added, “From the halls of Congress to the chaos of cable news what a ride it’s been! Was it messy? Always. Glamorous? Occasionally. Honest? I tried… most days.”
Continuing, Santos addressed his supporters directly, saying, “You made this wild political cabaret worth it.” He continued, “To my critics: Thanks for the free press. I may be leaving the stage (for now), but trust me legends never truly exit.” He signed his post, “Forever fabulously yours.”
Moreover, in a previous post on X on July 9, 2025, Santos made a dramatic viral statement, telling his followers, “I’m heading to prison, folks and I need you to hear this loud and clear: I’m not suicidal. I’m not depressed. I have no intentions of harming myself, and I will not willingly engage in any sexual activity while I’m in there.”
Next, Santos said that if any information comes out suggesting otherwise, consider it a lie…full stop.” He continued, “The statistics around what happens to gay men in BOP custody are horrifying, and that’s exactly why I’m putting this out there now. So if something does happen, there’s no confusion.”
In response to Santos’s cryptic post, commenters were both perplexed and supportive. Conservative influencer Paul A. Szypula offered words of encouragement to the convicted lawmaker, writing, “Be safe. Many of the people celebrating your jailing have done far worse than you and will never serve any time. The system is indeed rigged.” Continuing, Szypula said, “You’ve acknowledged your crimes. Seven years is ridiculous and a testament to how abusive New York activist judges can be.”

Likewise, conservative activist Scott Presler also showed his support for Santos, writing, “George, we are thankful for your contributions to the country & for your conservative votes as a Member of Congress.” He continued, “Your voting record is one of the most conservative in New York. If there’s anything I can do, let me know.”
