Rep. Jasmine Crockett supported the slander of Republicans during a town hall meeting, displaying her classic blend of sensationalized rhetoric and emotionally-driven reasoning and seconding a fellow progressive who said that Republicans “want people to die as quickly as humanly possible.”
For context, during a live town hall meeting on June 3, 2025, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) joined former CNN anchor Jim Acosta, actress Rosie O’Donnell, CNN contributor Michael Fanone, and former Trump Administration official Olivia Troye, and made brazen, baseless comments about Republicans, riffing off of a statement made by Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA).
Importantly, Rep. Crockett’s comments were a response to Sen. Joni Ernst, who said during a Parkersburg, Iowa, town hall meeting on May 31, “Well, we are all going to die,” in response to a concerned constituent who shouted, “People will die!” while the senator was discussing proposed Medicaid reform.
Responding to Sen. Ernst’s comment during the June 3 town hall, host Jim Acosta said he was “astonished” by what the senator said, adding, “I’m thinking to myself, isn’t the point of healthcare to postpone that as long as possible, like, we don’t want that to happen, isn’t that the point?” Fanone added the now-infamous quip, “Republicans want poor people to die as quickly as humanly possible.”
Next, Rep. Crockett weighed in on Fanone’s perspective, “I don’t think that that is a glitch, but that’s actually part of the design,” referring to the structure of the United States healthcare system if Republicans have their way. Rep. Crockett added, “The idea that you’ve got someone who has the audacity to say to people that sent her into D.C. to work on their behalf that you’re going to die,”
Building on her case against Sen. Ernst, the congresswoman said, “I think we all know that, but the reality is that you’ve decided that you want to be a gravedigger, and I don’t think that is who they elected you to be. They elected you to actually breathe life into it.” In response, a spokesperson for Sen. Ernst told Fox News that these comments were “fearmongering.”
Furthermore, Sen. Ernst’s spokesperson defended the Republican senator after she made her controversial “we’re all going to die” comment, telling Fox News, “While Democrats fearmonger against strengthening the integrity of Medicaid, Sen. Ernst is focused on improving the lives of all Iowans.”

Adding to their statement in support of Sen. Ernst, the senator’s spokesperson told Fox, “There’s only two certainties in life: death and taxes, and she’s working to ease the burden of both by fighting to keep more of Iowans’ hard-earned tax dollars in their own pockets and ensuring their benefits are protected from waste, fraud, and abuse.”
