Yet another lesson about robberies in the South being a bad idea because everyone is armed was learned by a duo of dimwitted criminals in North Georgia that tried robbing a gas station with one handgun…and were promptly outgunned and “encouraged” to stop their criminal behavior by a trio of armed citizens with a total of three handguns.
This comes just shortly after a robber at a taqueria in Texas was shot dead by an armed citizen while trying to rob the store with a fake gun, and after a “mama bear” in Lousiana used a firearm to shoot dead a robber breaking into her home and potentially threatening her children.
Well, the lesson about southerners being armed, and thus “hard” targets rather than “soft” targets apparently wasn’t learned by the North Georgia couple that tried robbing the gas station (one expects they didn’t keep up with the news too much), so they went ahead with their plan and attempted a robbery and getaway. Here’s how Louder with Crowder describes that attempt:
Meet Shawn and Melody Sutton. Shawn is the one with a beard. They are the couple who attempted to rob a North Georgia gas station. Melody waited in the getaway car. Shawn “wrapped a pair of women’s underwear around his neck and face” and proceeded to pull a gun on the cashier.
As we’ve discussed this week, ALWAYS LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU. Maybe the panties on his head blocked his peripheral vision because Shawn missed there were other customers in the store. He pulled a gun and said, “this is a stick-up.” Three different customers pulled THEIR guns and said “the f*ck it is!”
But it gets better. The panty-clad attempted robber remained belligerent and didn’t comply with police when they arrived, so he found himself on the wrong end of a stun gun thanks to that.
WSBTV, describing how the quick-thinking citizens in the gas station responded to the robbery attempt, said that Sutton’s pulling out a gun and demanding cash from the cashier “caught the attention of two customers who were inside the food mart. The first customer pulled his gun out to stop the robbery attempt while the second customer ran to his car to get his gun, according to police.”
Then, “As Sutton tried to escape, police said a third customer who was armed came to help. The first customer noticed that Sutton was disarmed and told the other two customers not to shoot him. Police said all the customers had legal permits for their guns.”
Yet better, though the police apparently mentioned permits for the guns, concealed carry is now legal in Georgia without a permit because of the state’s “Constitutional Carry” law becoming active on January 1, 2023, so future customers won’t even need permits to stay armed and on the lookout for dimwitted predators like the Suttons.
Maybe then criminals will remember that their fellow men might be armed and, rather than going on a crime spree, rethink their criminal impulses and instead find a more productive way to get their hands on some money.
