Back during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in mid-August. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez spoke and did her usual routine, attacking the idea of a conservative view of economics and bizarrely framing Trump as corrupt. However, she didn’t just give a ridiculous speech. She also debuted a ridiculous new accent, one that posters on X (formerly Twitter) quickly took to toasting.
During the speech, Rep. AOC went after former President Donald Trump and tried to paint him as a pawn of the plutocrats, in thrall to the Wall Street bankers. She claimed, “We know Trump would sell this country for a dollar if it meant lining his own pockets and greasing palms of his Wall Street friends.”
She also defended unions and, even more bizarrely, claimed that Kamala Harris has been trying to “lift working people” up and away from the “boots of greed,” saying, “I, for one, am tired of hearing about how a two-bit union buster thinks of himself as more of a patriot than the woman who fights every single day to lift working people out from under the boots of greed trampling on our way of life.”
So, in addition to the speech generally, which was full of equally vague and ridiculous comments and wild gesticulations with a loud voice, being mocked, her weird, “fake accent,” as one poster called it, was roasted. That poster said, “AOC speech was cringe. The fake accent was way too much for me. Back snapped. I called it. DNC is cringe as all get out.”
Commenters agreed and similarly attacked AOC and Kamala. One, for example, called out the absurd nature of her claims, saying, “Kamala the Cackle Jackal fights for small businesses, forgetting that her party shutdown small businesses during COVID bankrupting mom & pop shops. Or worse, supporting BLM/Antifa, who destroyed small businesses, stealing them blind or burning businesses to the ground. Commie Kamala wants to raise taxes on these small businesses for more federal government giveaways to people who haven’t earned it. This is the Democrat plan: Redistribution of wealth taking from the hardworking risk-takers and give to the idle minions who want something for nothing.”
Another poster, conservative commentator Steve Cortes, wrote, “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez developed a new phony accent in the middle of delivering her very painful speech.” Similarly, a commenter on Mr. Cortes’s post noted, “People from Yorktown Heights don’t sound like that at all.”
Hilariously, another commenter said, “She sounds likes she’s doing spoken word politics on an Austin street corner while she waits for a john.” On much the same note, another joked that AOC seems to cycle through accents, saying, “Y’all LOL Sometimes it’s very latino accent other times regular. Last night southern twang. OMG”
Yet another commenter, one who commented on the New York Post’s post about the subject, chimed in as well and took the opportunity to slam AOC for not being more present in her New York City congressional district, saying, “Certainly not a Bronx or Queens accent because she is never in her district.”
