In an absolutely absurd moment on Wednesday, July 24, CNN commentator and ex-Obama adviser Van Jones got choked up and emotional when speaking about President Joe Biden’s decision to not accept the nomination for the 2024 presidential election and instead throw his support and endorsement behind Vice President Kamala Harris.
Announcing his decision to not accept the 2024 nomination and run for a second term as president, President Joe Biden posted on X (formerly Twitter), on Sunday, July 21, “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”
Continuing, he supported Kamala, saying, “My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”
In any case, Van Jones, emotionally praising Biden during a Wednesday appearance on CNN, the same night that Biden addressed the nation from the Oval Office, said, “The kid with a stutter did good. He did good. That’s a good man. He fell on his sword. He fell on his sword. Most heroes, they fight until the bitter end. He fell on his sword.”
Continuing, the choked-up commentator said, “He asked the question: Does character still matter? Well, it does tonight.” Van Jones continued, “He’s an old guy, but the heart’s still there,” Jones said of Biden. “The words aren’t as clear, but the love is clear. The heart is still there, and I think people need to look at this because you had somebody sitting in that chair, and he wouldn’t give up power no matter what. Wouldn’t give up power, let there be an insurrection, wouldn’t get out of that chair.”
He then said, referring to former President Donald Trump, “Even when the people voted for him to get out of the chair, he wouldn’t get out of the chair. You’ve got somebody who’s sitting in that same chair showing that character does matter, showing that you can have grace, you can put the people first, you can pass the baton, and you’re a bigger person for it.” He concluded, “I love that man.”

Van Jones also recently suggested that the right’s criticisms of Kamala are racist and sexist, and that that is an “impulse” of the GOP, saying, “Here’s reality the Republican Party is going to have to resist its worst impulses to make this a racial, gender trash truck of insult and innuendo against this candidate. I don’t want to hear it.”
Continuing, he said, “She checked a box by winning at the local level. I voted for her the local level in San Francisco when she was my district attorney, voted for her when she was attorney general in California voted for her as a senator, I voted for her as vice president. What more boxes can you check that? The only people who’ve been given her special treatment are voters who keep electing her.”
