In a powerful and surprisingly bipartisan moment from the House of Representatives, six Democrats helped Republicans pass a resolution condemning Vice President Harris over her perceived failure. in her task, from March 2021 to work with officials in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras to stem migration to the United States.
President Biden, at the time, said that he had been assigned a similar role as Vice President and that working with countries abroad on the matter would be mutually beneficial. He said. “One of the ways we learned is that if you deal with the problems in country, it benefits everyone. It benefits us, it benefits the people, and it grows the economies there.”
Harris, in April of that year, said, “The president has asked (Homeland Security) Secretary (Alejandro) Mayorkas to address what is going on at the border. And he has been working very hard at that, and it’s showing some progress because of his hard work. I have been asked to lead the issue of dealing with root causes in the Northern Triangle, similar to what the then-vice president did many years ago.”
Many Republicans, and some Democrats, have since claimed that Biden made her “Border Czar.” PolitiFact fact-checked that claim, saying, “Joe Biden didn’t name Kamala Harris “border czar.” He tasked her with addressing the issues driving migration from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. U.S. Border security is the Homeland Security Secretary’s responsibility.”
In any case, the resolution, passed on Thursday, July 25, by 214 House Republicans and six House Democrats, condemns Vice President Kamala Harris for what those who voted for it saw as her failures to aid in securing the US-Mexico border, saying, “The House of Representatives strongly condemns the Biden Administration . . . Kamala Harris’s, failure to secure the United States border.”
Speaking about the resolution in a statement, House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green said that he sees her as having failed miserably in the role granted her by Biden in March of 2021, and is “an extremist on border security and immigration enforcement, as her record as a senator, presidential candidate, and vice president makes abundantly clear.”
Rep. Green added, speaking about her record on the border and what President Joe Biden had authorized her to do at that fateful time in March, “In March 2021, President Biden told the country that Vice President Harris was ‘the most qualified person to…lead our efforts’ in stemming the flood of illegal aliens across our Southwest border.”
He then said, “No rational person could look at the years since, and conclude anything except that she was utterly unqualified, and has completely failed. While Democrats and their allies in the media rush to excuse Vice President Harris’ catastrophic failure to end the crisis she and President Biden created, Congress has shown with this resolution that we want the American people to know the truth.”
