President Joe Biden’s performance during the Thursday, June 27 debate between him and former President Donald Trump that was hosted by CNN was such a disaster that former Obama White House advisor and current CNN personality Van Jones was melting down in his comments on it. In fact, he seemed to be on the verge of tears when discussing the matter.
In fact, though Team Biden claimed that the president’s poor performance was the result of a cold and apparatchiks like Governor “Greasy Gavin” Newsom of California claimed that Biden won it, many Americans said that Biden’s debate disaster boiled down to his poor and declining cognitive health, as shown by his various issues that became very obvious in the 90-minute debate.
In any case, Jones, speaking to his fellow panelists about how the first 2024 Presidential Debate went, was quite down on President Biden. He began by saying, “That was painful.” Continuing, he told his fellow panelists that he supports President Biden but thinks he did quite poorly. He said. “I love Joe Biden, I worked for Joe Biden. He didn’t do well at all. He did not do well at all.”
Next, Van Jones said that the debate looked like a spat between an “old man,” meaning President Bidne, and a “con man,” meaning former President Trump. He said, “[Biden] looked… I’ll give you the analysis, kind of the old man versus the con man.”
That’s when Van Jones appeared to be on the verge of tears as he described what he sees as President Biden’s love of the country and attempt to do well despite his cognitive issues. He said, “He loves his country. He’s doing the best that he can. But he had a test to meet tonight to restore confidence of the country and of the base, and he failed to do that.”
Then, seeming to call on President Biden to drop out of the race before it’s too late, Van Jones said, “And I think there’s a lot of people who are going to want to see him consider taking a different course now.” Continuing with that point, he said, “We’re still far from our convention. And there is time for this party to figure out a different way forward if he will allow us to do this.”
Watch him here:
Van Jones’ co-panelist, Peter King, said that many in the Democrat Pary see Biden’s performance as “dismal,” saying, “They’re having conversations about the president’s performance, which they think was dismal, which they think will hurt other people down the party in the ticket, and having conversations about what they should do about it.”
King continued, “Some of those conversations include whether we should go to the White House and ask the president to step aside.” King then added, speaking about calls for Biden to resign, “The discussion within the party suggests that some members believe it might be necessary for prominent Democrats to publicly call for Biden to reconsider his campaign.”
