As the 2024 presidential race heats up, GOP politicians are aiming to swing it toward them by encouraging Christian, faith-focused voters to get out and vote for Republican politicians, saying that the Democrats are waging war on people of faith in America who would prefer to not go along with the far-left, often anti-religious regime.
Much of their comments on the matter came during the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s “Road to Majority” conference that took place in Washington, D.C. over the weekend of June 22 and 23. Fox News Digital spoke about the election and how people of faith will influence it, with the GOP representatives saying that religious voters will be a hugely important demographic.
For example, Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri noted that their role could be “decisive” given their numbers and the GOP’s need for majorities. He said, “They play a huge role, a decisive role.” He continued, “There’s no majority for the Republican Party without voters of faith. And they’re going to decide this election. So we need them to turn out.”
Similarly, former Democrat congresswoman from Hawaii Tulsi Gabbard, who left her party in part because of what she saw as its war on the Christian faith, said that religious voters need to get on board with the GOP because her former colleagues in the Democratic Party “is trying to erase God from every facet of our public life.”
Speaking about pushing back on the anti-freedom of religion policies of the Democrats, Gabbard said, “We will play a critical role, especially at a time where we have the Biden-Harris administration and the Democrat elite who, are fundamentally against freedom, including freedom of religion, and have a long track record that threatens people of faith and spirituality.”
Continuing, she explained that the left is attempting to erase faith from public life, saying, “You look at those things that happened several years ago, and you look at how that has escalated at a much higher level, an abuse of power, a targeting of people of faith and the Democratic Party that, unfortunately, is trying to erase God from every facet of our public life.”
Explaining what that means for religious voters and why voting for the GOP is the way for them to stand up for their rights as people of faith, Gabbard said, “Now more than ever people of faith, people of spirituality need to stand up, to defend this fundamental, God-given right and stop those who are trying to take it away from us.”
Gabbard has spoken about this matter before, appearing on Fox News Channel in the spring of 2023 to explain why she felt the need to leave the Democratic Party because of her strong religious faith and her view that it was attacking faith. Watch her here:
Other GOP figures joined in as well. For example, former Kentucky AG Daniel Cameron said, “This is a moment for folks of faith to stand up and be counted and be engaged in the public square, in the marketplace of ideas, and certainly in the November election.” He continued, “I think the more folks that are Christians get engaged in this process, the better the turnout is going to be.”
Similarly, Arizona politician Kari Lake said, “I think it’s going to be massive. I mean, we’re seeing so many things happening that go against our morals and beliefs. For people who are Christian, people who are Jewish right now of all faiths, and they’re realizing that we have a unique right in the United States is called the First Amendment, our freedom to practice a religion of our choice.”
She further explained that this is about defending the Constitution from the unremitting attacks on it and the liberties guaranteed 8in it, saying, “And if we watch our Constitution crumble, we don’t have that ability anymore. This is the last bastion for freedom of religion in this country. And we have to save that and protect that.”
