In yet another awkward and embarrassing moment for the current president, elderly Joe Biden, he raised eyebrows during a very awkward part of the D-Day ceremony in Normandy, France, and then, as French President Emmanuel Macron greeted veterans, was escorted off the stage and away from the ceremony by Dr. Jill Biden. Some claimed Biden had already greeted the vets and didn’t leave ahead of time, while others claimed he left early.
As background, the eyebrow-raising incident that appears to have led to him being led away was the now-infamous clip of him on the stage at the event. The clip shows Biden standing beside First Lady Jill Biden and President Macro before bending over and appearing to sway up and down in a hunched position as Lloyd Austin was being introduced. The video has sparked speculation from conservative critics of the president, speculating what he was doing in the brief video.
Probably because of that criticism of Biden from the right, some, particularly on the left, have claimed the video was taken out of context and was “deceptively” edited when it was cut to make the president’s actions appear more awkward than they actually were. The full video shows Biden sitting down in his chair seconds later, where he appeared to begin sitting down preemptively before Austin was fully introduced.
In any case, the awkward clip took off on X (formerly Twitter) and raised many eyebrows on the right, with people wondering what President Biden was up to in that incident and if it is further proof that his mental health is not where it needs to be for him to be president, as some have long been arguing. Watch the clip here:
Whatever President Biden was up to, whether he was just expecting to sit down on the soon-to-be provided chair as some claim, or was having a senior citizen moment on stage, as many others claimed, he was soon escorted off the stage and away from the ceremonies by First Lady Dr. Jill Biden as troops saluted, as a video that emerged shows. Meanwhile, that same video shows French President Emmanuel Macron staying behind and greeting some of the D-Day veterans in attendance, some of whom were over 100 years old.

Predictably, the comments were savage. “40 years ago an American President led the remembrance of a remarkable moment with a profound speech; today an American President was led off stage by his wife,” one said. Another added, “Truly one of the most infuriating Biden moments of the entire presidency. Don’t worry, the FRENCH President will stand by and thank the WWII veterans on D-Day.”
On the other side, people claimed that Biden had already greeted the veterans and didn’t leave early. “He greeted veterans before the ceremony and after on the way out. I didn’t see all of it but it was broadcast live on tv,” said one commenter. “He and Dr Biden had taken their turn greeting the vets, which of course the RNC liars wouldn’t mention with this edited video. Macron then took his turn greeting the vets,” said another.
