Recently, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder slammed Kansas City Chiefs Kicker Harrison Butker during a rant at a Las Vegas concert. Vedder suggested Butker was “such a f***ing p***y” while criticizing his traditional Christian values.
Butker delivered a speech at Benedictine’s College commencement ceremony that sparked outrage from the left. The professional football player drew upon his Catholic faith when discussing issues such as abortion, gender roles, and President Biden.
Vedder addressed Butker’s speech while onstage during the May 18 concert, disparaging the Chiefs star over the expression of his Christian beliefs. “People of quality do not fear equality,” the singer said. “But, you know, he started telling men… he was telling men ‘don’t forget to puff up your chest and be more masculine, don’t lose your masculinity,’” Vedder continued.
“The irony is that when he was saying that, he looked like such a f***ing p***y. There’s nothing more masculine than a strong man supporting a strong woman. Take that. People of quality do not fear equality,” he said, implying that Butker’s comments where somehow degrading to women or made them seem weak.
Presumably, Vedder was referring to comments from the portion of Butker’s speech where he addressed the female graduates in the crowd at the Benedictine ceremony. He suggested to them that there was much more to the experience of being a woman than chasing a career, calling it one of the most “diabolical lies.”
According to the NFL athlete, pursuing the fruits of motherhood can bring true meaning and happiness to life. Furthermore, Butker discussed the experience of his wife, who found paramount importance in embracing the status of “homemaker.”
Butker stated, “For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment. You should be proud of all that you have achieved to this point in your young lives. I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you. How many of you are sitting here now about to cross this stage and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career? Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.” Watch Vedder’s onstage comments below:
He continued, “I can tell you that my beautiful wife, Isabelle, would be the first to say that her life truly started when she began living her vocation as a wife and as a mother. I’m on the stage today and able to be the man I am because I have a wife who leans into her vocation. I’m beyond blessed with the many talents God has given me, but it cannot be overstated that all of my success is made possible because a girl I met in band class back in middle school would convert to the faith, become my wife, and embrace one of the most important titles of all: homemaker.”
