Fulton County DA continues to face hotter and hotter water over the allegations brought against her first by Michael Roman, a former Trump 2020 official against whom she brought RICO charges in her case against former President Donald Trump. Now, in addition to judicial oversight, a bar complaint, and constant bad press, DA Willis is facing articles of impeachment, which were just introduced in the Georgia State House by Rep. Charlice Byrd.
As background, Mr. Roman alleged that DA Willis was conducting an affair with one of the three special prosecutors she appointed in the Trump RICO case, Nathan Wade. Further allegations against DA Willis alleged that she financially profited from that relationship and that Wade was utterly unqualified for the position.
State Rep. Charlice Byrd, posting on X about why she introduced the Articles of Impeachment, said, “With freedom on the line, bold action is necessary. It’s time for the legislature to do its constitutional duty and hold corrupt Fulton DA Fani WIllis accountable, which is why I have introduced H.R. 872, articles of impeachment against Fani WIllis. Read my full statement below.”
Then, in the press statement on the Articles of Impeachment and why she felt the need to introduce them, it explained, “State Rep. Charlice Byrd (R-Woodstock), a 6-term incumbent from Cherokee County, today introduced H.R. 872 to impeach Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, claiming she has used her office not to pursue justice but for political gain.”
The statement continued, explaining the background to the situation and what allegations have been brought against DA Willis, saying, “Willis is known for pursuing a high-profile indictment against President Donald Trump and 18 others for their constitutional right to question the integrity of the 2020 election count in Fulton County and elsewhere in Georgia.”
Further, it noted, “Willis also has come under scrutiny for possible conflict of interest in hiring a potential paramour in the case against Trump. In addition, a judge barred Willis from investigating Lt. Gov. Burt Jones when he was campaigning for lieutenant governor as she was a financial supporter of his opponent.”
The statement went on to quote state Rep. Byrd as saying, “Fani Willis has a laundry list of potential conflicts that make her unworthy and unfit to be the District Attorney in Fulton County. Someone elected to that office is expected to uphold the law and not weaponize their office for political gain. Since Day One when she was elected, Fani Willis has embarrassed the criminal justice system in Fulton County and our state.”
Continuing, Rep. Byrd was quoted as explaining why the First Amendment is so important, saying, “The First Amendment is still the bedrock of this country and Fani Willis can’t overturn it because she has Trump Derangement Syndrome. It’s time our state lawmakers draw a line in the sand and put an end to her refusal to uphold the Constitution.”
Further, Byrd explained, “The people demand we do our job as public officials. When the rights of Americans are grossly violated and we stand by, doing nothing, we set precedent that public officials need not concern themselves with the rights of the citizenry. This is not a precedent I can live with setting. The time to act is now and I encourage all my colleagues in the General Assembly to join me and impeach Fani Willis.”
The resolution in the Georgia House is 10 pages. It alleges that DA Willis committed “acts of malfeasance, tyrannical partiality, and oppression” in the “wrongful” indictment of Trump and more than a dozen co-defendants. It further argues that the wrongful indictment constituted “the severest case of gross abuse of discretion.”
And it’s not just politicians going after Willis. One furious Fulton County resident sounded off on DA Willis and her alleged misuse of public funds in a recent hearing on appropriations. Watch that furious resident sound off here:
