Former Democrat congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard recently appeared on Fox News’ “Hannity,” where she discussed the recent state rulings to disqualify former President Donald Trump from their respective ballots. Gabbard claimed that she has “no doubt” that Democrats and the establishment would like to remove Trump from the ballot altogether.
Gabbard sounded off on Democrats, asserting that their desire for power is leading them to interfere with democracy. The former congresswoman also called out the alleged weaponization of the federal government to attack the Trump campaign. The former president still faces several legal challenges ahead of the presidential election.
“This is the M.O. of the Democrat elite. They will stop at nothing to try to maintain their power, even if it means taking away the right to vote of Americans. So they have no issue taking Trump off the ballot. They have no issue pursuing him and persecuting him through a weaponized and politicized Department of Justice,” she said.
Gabbard further discussed the current regime’s refusal to concede political power, asserting that it is “ridiculous” that such corruption is occurring in the United States. She claims that when similar political conduct occurs in another nation, Washington will quickly denounce it and intervene. The former congresswoman directs her criticism to both sides of the political aisle, not sparing Republicans who she claims also have an interest in subverting Trump.
“They have no qualms about doing whatever they feel is necessary to hold onto power. It’s ridiculous that we are having this conversation here in the United States of America. … We’ve seen how the war hawks in Washington, they will see this happen in another country and they’ll be very quick to say we must go and intervene. We must go and topple this banana republic or this dictatorship. Many of these very same people are the people who are driving this. And it’s not just Democrats. They’re Republicans who are threatened by President Trump’s unwillingness to buy into their establishment ways.
Gabbard’s remarks follow controversial decisions from states such as Colorado and Maine, where Trump was disqualified from appearing on their ballots. These rulings cite the “Insurrection Clause” of the 14th Amendment pertaining to the events that occurred at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Subsequently, Republicans have slammed the decisions from these blue states, alleging they are infringing upon democracy. Colorado GOP lawyers wrote, “By excluding President Trump from the ballot, the Colorado Supreme Court engaged in an unprecedented disregard for the First Amendment right of political parties to select the candidates of their choice and a usurpation of the rights of the people to choose their elected officials.”
Trump’s legal team also vowed to appeal the Colorado decision, where a spokesman from the Trump campaign stated, “The Colorado Supreme Court issued a completely flawed decision tonight and we will swiftly file an appeal to the United States Supreme Court and a concurrent request for a stay of this deeply undemocratic decision.” The spokesman added, “We have full confidence that the Supreme Court will quickly rule in our favor and finally put an end to these un-American lawsuits,”
