Star Hollywood actor Chris Pratt has seen his popularity grow recently as he has become bolder about sharing his faith and conservative values with fans and interviewers. Recently, Pratt took that a step further as he explained why his hit show “The Terminal List” was such a massive hit during its first season.
Speaking to Men’s Journal, Pratt mentioned that shows like “The Terminal List” and movies like “Taken” perform so well because of a natural desire to fathers to protect their children. “Some critic said something like it was an “unhinged revenge fantasy.” And, to be honest, that’s exactly what it is in a way. Whenever you’re put in a position, or even imagine a position, where those kids are in danger, your mind goes to wild places.”
Pratt continued, saying that this fantasy is exactly why men were able to understand the main character so well. They would have done the exact same thing. Pratt said, “I would probably do the same (effing) thing. I think that’s why those storylines resonate so strongly with fathers.”
While many men don’t share the special skill set that Chris Pratt’s character displayed as a Navy Seal, it is clear that any father who had a chance to take revenge for his family would love to do so, at least as Pratt sees it.
Pratt used that emotion to his advantage in filming the show. He noted how being a father allowed him to become a better actor by opening a new door through which to connect with the characters that he was trying to portray. He spoke about this technique, saying, “As an actor, one of those tools can be substitution, where you’re mentally substituting the reality you’ve felt in the past for one that your character is supposed to be experiencing.”
He continued, saying that the role of a parent allows for a whole new emotional view of certain roles, “And when you add the reality of being a father, being a parent, and what that means for us, it’s a very powerful tool. That level of responsibility opens up a whole new cavern of emotional potential.”
It has been interviews like this have seen Chris Pratt’s star grow so brightly in recent years. His ability to say what is on everyone’s mind without admonishing any group is unmatched by other Hollywood actors. Where some saw toxic masculinity in the roles that Pratt plays, he defends it, saying that he is only hoping to accurately portray the emotions that any family-oriented man would feel.
