On New Year’s Day, famous actor Jeremy Renner was the victim of a gruesome accident near his Lake Tahoe, California home. The footage shows how the paramedics worked quickly to save Renner’s life.
In the newly released bodycam footage of the incident, emergency responders are at the scene surrounding Renner, where pools of blood formed from his injuries. Police were questioning Renner’s nephew on how the accident played out, trying to piece together the whole story. Medics worked to stabilize the actor before he was airlifted to a hospital. See the bodycam footage below.
The accident occurred when Renner attempted to help his nephew move a truck stuck in the snow. The actor was operating a Pistenbully snow plow which weighs well over 14,000 pounds, to help dislodge the stuck vehicle. However, when Renner got out of the snowplow to check on his nephew, the machine continued to move, barreling in the direction of his relative. That’s when Renner reportedly tried to jump back in the snow plow but was caught in the tread and run over. The American Tribune reported:
According to the report, what happened was Renner parked the snowplow to deal with the situation but forgot to engage the emergency brake on it. As a result, it started sliding downhill toward his nephew. The machine weighs nearly a ton, so it could have crushed the nephew had Renner not intervened to try and stop it.
He did so by stepping on the track of the snow plow, trying to redirect it or bring it to a halt, as the track must be stepped on to get into the machine.
Unfortunately, when he stepped on the track to climb in, he got pulled under it and “suffered injuries to his torso, extremities, face and head,” according to the Washoe Sheriff’s Office report.
One of the paramedics in the footage can be heard saying, “I’ve never seen anything like this.” Renner’s nephew Alex Fries noted when describing the accident to authorities, “You can almost see where he spun around, where the wheels are at. He got out to tell me something, and that’s when it started coming at me full force. He tried to jump back in there at around right where his blood is at… That’s right where it happened. He slipped, because these tracks, there’s no way to stand on them.”
Following his recovery, Renner commented on his accident and thanked his nephew for his life-saving actions. Renner said, “One thing I thought about once I was clear enough – this was still while I was on the ground before the ambulance even got there – was what my experience was like, but then I had to think about Alex’s because Alex was there during the entire time, I mean he had to see his Uncle Jeremy on the ground. I didn’t see any of this stuff. the blood everywhere, and the thing and the eye, all this stuff, and I had to consider what his perspective was, and then that kept happening with everyone’s perspective throughout this entire ordeal. It’s pretty harrowing to really take the time to consider someone else’s perspective.”
