Starring Chris Pratt, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” made records by scoring the best second weekend ever for an animated movie in North American theaters. It did so by bringing in a massive $87 million in ticket sales, dropping just 41% from opening weekend.
When its $94 million in international sales are taken into account, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” has now brought in a massive $678 million total. In doing so, it blew straight past “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” in just two weekends to become the biggest film of 2023 so far.
Paul Dergarabedian, the senior media analyst for Comsore, described the movie’s incredible success by saying, “There are not enough adjectives to describe the enormity of this box office performance.”
Breitbart, reporting on why “The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s” second weekend was such a stand-out success, reported:
For most blockbusters, second weekends are usually down by about 60%, making “Mario’s” 41% drop especially noteworthy. According to Comscore, only a handful of films that opened over $100 million have had less of a fall, including “Shrek 2,” “Frozen 2,” 2002’s “Spider-Man,” “The Force Awakens” and 2016’s “The Jungle Book.”
“To the casual observer that may not seem like a big deal, but that is an important metric,” Dergarabedian said. “It’s the greatest indicator of audience love for the movie.”
Reporting on the movies’ massive success on opening weekend, we at The American Tribune reported:
Despite Hollywood’s constant desire to include woke lectures in their films, movies that avoid pushing the left’s agenda are the movies that most over-perform when box office totals are released. “Super Mario Bros.” is one of the latest examples, with Chris Pratt leading the movie to an opening week worth $204.6 million, according to Breitbart.
The movie stars Chris Pratt and Charlie Day playing the two main characters of the Mario franchise, brothers Mario and Luigi. “Super Mario Bros.” took away the title of the highest-grossing opening for a 2023 movie from the most recent release in the “Ant-Man” series. Chris Pratt decided to post a quick celebratory Instagram picture to thank his fans for coming to see the animated film. He said:
“Thank you to everyone who checked out The Super Mario Bros. Movie this weekend! If you haven’t yet, do!
“To celebrate I held a baby goat, caught a couple bass, found a blacktail shed, drank some coffee and hung out with my bro in the A- frame he and his girlfriend Lindsay refurbished, got teased because Lindsay actually found the shed not me but I took a picture like I found it. Am I jealous? Yes. But would I tell her that? No.”
The film stands in stark contrast to woke Marvel’s latest attempt at pushing a movie, “The Marvel’s.” The teaser trailer for that film, full as it is of an affirmative action cast and idiotic plot, garnered a record number of dislikes from people who found the film trailer absolutely terrible. Predictably, however, the film industry refused to learn from why the newest Marvel slop is hated and the Pratt movie was loved by audiences, blaming “sexism” and the like instead of itself.
