A mother in Burton, Texas, a town just north of Houston, just took the internet by storm for doing something that she claims was just another day on the job: wrangling a snake out of and away from her daughter’s car.
That mom’s name is Nicole Graham. She was, Fox News Digital reports, cleaning up a chicken coop for a client of her’s in Burton when she found a snake slithering around on the premises. It found its way into the car of her daughter, Haylie, who captured the incident on video.
Acting seemingly without hesitation, Graham got the snake out of the care using just her talent, a ruler, and gloves while wearing just a t-shirt, leggings, and flip-flops. Speaking to FOX 26 about the incident, she said, “Don’t try this at home. Picking snakes up, it’s not for everybody. Obviously, you always need to be cautious because it may not always be a nonvenomous snake, it could definitely be poisonous. So just be careful and do what you feel comfortable with.”
Haylie, speaking about the incident to FOX 26, said, “[My mom] came running over to my car, I roll down my window. She’s like, ‘Haylie, there’s a snake in the chicken coop. So I run over, I immediately as any teen would do start filming.”
Why was Graham at the chicken coop in the first place? Because she runs a business that teaches people a wide variety of life skills, including those related to chicken coops, one of which she was cleaning when the incident occurs. Speaking about that, she said, “I own a company called The Garden Hen, we are educationally based, meaning we teach lifecycle and skills in schools. We build backyard chicken coops, we kind of do everything under the sun cleaning is a big part of our business, cleaning chicken coops for clients.”
Speaking about the type of snake involved in this incident, she said, “Rat snakes, also known as Chicken Snakes, like to go into chicken coops and eat the eggs of the chickens. They don’t typically go after the birds or the poultry unless they’re relatively small, but the reality is, eggs are a big part of their diet just like small rodents, small birds, things of that nature.”
Continuing, she said, “If you noticed, I was wearing gloves and I had a long stick with me. I’m not asking anybody or anybody that comes across it to ever do anything that does not feel right to them. Because obviously, safety is key.”
Graham also posted about the snake on her Instagram, including a photo of it and the caption, “Making new friends today lol 😂 just add snake wrangler to me resume… sneaky little devil.”
