Infamous RINO Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) announced her opposition to the SAVE Act and similar bills like MEGA, arguing they would federalize elections. Supporting her decision, she cited constitutional state authority over election administration, concerns that one-size-fits-all mandates harm Alaska, and timing disruptions to election preparations.
However, a community note fact-checked her, revealing that she was the only Republican senator to support advancing the 2021 changes, even though she claimed to oppose them for principled reasons. Her post drew sharp conservative backlash, with users labeling her a RINO, out of touch with her base.
Starting off her absurd comments, Senator Lisa Murkowski alleged, “When Democrats attempted to advance sweeping election reform legislation in 2021, Republicans were unanimous in opposition because it would have federalized elections, something we have long opposed.”
Still not done, she claimed, “Now, I’m seeing proposals such as the SAVE Act and MEGA that would effectively do just that. Once again, I do not support these efforts. Not only does the U.S. Constitution clearly provide states the authority to regulate the “times, places, and manner” of holding federal elections, but one-size-fits-all mandates from Washington, D.C., seldom work in places like Alaska.”
“Election Day is fast approaching. Imposing new federal requirements now, when states are deep into their preparations, would negatively impact election integrity by forcing election officials to scramble to adhere to new policies likely without the necessary resources,” Murkowski posted.
Finally concluding her tenuous comments, the Alaska RINO claimed to prioritize Democracy, while blocking the will of the voters, saying, “Ensuring public trust in our elections is at the core of our democracy, but federal overreach is not how we achieve this.”
However, the RINO was soon fact-checked by a community note, which exposed the dishonest claims in the tweet. “Senator Murkowski voted to advance the 2021 voter reforms she references here. She was the only Republican to do so,” the note explained.

When conservatives caught wind of her post, the backlash was immediate. “You’re legitimately the worst,” quipped one user. “You will be removed from office and investigated, regardless, that’s going to happen. But, pass the Save Act first, and get a vacation or two out of it before heading to jail? Who holds your reins Senator?” another asked.
“While 83% of Americans—including 71% of Democrats—back the SAVE Act’s bipartisan push for voter ID and citizenship proof to safeguard elections, RINO Murkowski whines she’s “just now seeing” it, exposing how she’s utterly divorced from her own base and the will of the people,” a comment pointed out.
Another cynical response stated, “Kind of seems like to me if this was important to the people that it should be important to, which is our legislators, we would treat it more importantly than just one more political football.”
Rounding out the comments, a woman reacted, “You are deservedly and forever now political toast. And a traitor to your country. And where have you been in protesting the Federal prohibition on states mandating verified citizenship to vote? Yup, an example of what you decry as Federalization! Total phony, total RINO.”
