New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani was once again heckled during a press conference to discuss his “Neighborhood Builders Fast Track” housing initiative, as more and more residents of the city become fed up with his socialist policies. Mamdani took office back in January and his administration has been marred by failure from the very beginning.
Mamdani’s initiative is said to enable developers to build new housing units at a faster rate. While explaining the program, the mayor was called a liar by a man in the crowd, who has seemingly made a habit of showing up to these events and sharing his true feelings about Mamdani. The heckler, Paul Rivera, shouted at Mamdani who tried to turn the incident around by putting on an air of compassion.
“We love that in New York City you’re gonna hear it from everybody,” Mamdani said, trying to defuse the situation before things grew more tense. “It wouldn’t be our city if there wasn’t somebody on the block.” He then directed his comments to Rivera, saying, “I want that man to be able to afford to keep living in New York City.”
According to Inquisitr, Mamdani tied the heckling into his stump speech for the initiative, saying, “If I don’t hear him yelling at me, it means he got priced out of this place.” He then stated, “I don’t want that. I don’t want that for him. I don’t want that for anybody in this city.” The crowd laughed as they realized that he was also talking about Rivera, the heckler.
Speaking to the crowd, the mayor explained his goals for the Big Apple and why the city matters to him. “We need to make this city affordable enough to yell at your politicians. If it’s not the city, we don’t want to live in that city,” he continued. The heckling started when Mamdani asked how many folks in the crowd had struggled to pay their rent for years.
Rivera continued to yell during the speech, as Mamdani continued to try to convince everyone that he truly cares about the affordability crisis and could still relate to the average person on the street. And this isn’t the first time Mamdani has encountered resistance to his radical left-wing ideas. In August 2025, a video clip went viral on social media featuring activist Scott Lo Baido being arrested at an anti-Trump event.
Lo Baido told the then-mayoral candidate, “This is my f***ing island, you are not welcome here,” while being physically restrained after the event, which was held at Istanbul Bay Authentic Mediterranean Restaurant. Lo Baido accused Mamdani of hating Jews, police, and the country as a whole. The activist used a megaphone to ensure his voice was heard during Mamdani’s opening statement.

Fox News conducted an interview with Lo Baido following his arrest. “I suggest that somebody in every single borough every time this man shows his face to do what I did the other day,” he told the outlet. The activist informed his followers on X that he received three summonses following his arrest for sound without a permit, disorderly conduct, and foul language.
