Last year, the Los Angeles Dodgers faced substantial backlash after hosting an event with a group of drag queens known as the Sister of Perpetual Indulgence that mocks Catholic nuns and Christianity. However, footage from the event shows a near-empty stadium with very few fans there to support the overt mockery of Christianity.
Popular Christian recording artist Sean Feucht shared footage of the incident on X, writing, “BREAKING: Never seen @Dodgers stadium so empty as they honor the demonic! 😅💪🏽 Yet thousands of believers are protesting outside! The message from America has been clearly sent again: YOU GO WOKE, YOU GO BROKE!”
Feucht even provided an update later in the game, showing what appears to be lackluster attendance at what would ostensibly be a highly anticipated game in the seasons. “Update in the 6th inning. More people but still pretty pathetic for one of the biggest rivalries in sports. 😅 #GoWokeGoBroke,” he wrote while showing footage panning throughout the stadium.
The American Tribune previously reported reactions to the controversial move to host the Catholic mockery, which Turning Point USA personality Savannah Hernandez said, “I spoke to a member of guest services and asked if the “sisters” would be getting anymore recognition or receive the Community Hero Award from the Dodgers on field. He shared that far as he knows this announcement is all they would be receiving and we’ll see no more of the “sisters” tonight.”
Washington Nationals pitcher Jake Treinen, a devout Catholic, called for a boycott against the Dodgers. “I wasn’t necessarily worried because this is something that I believe is truth. Right. And it’s something that this is, this is Trevor, the Catholic man tweeting this. I what, I, what I did, I believe was true, and I had to stick up for our truth. And at the end of the day, baseball is important,” he said.
“And it’s given me a lot of tremendous opportunities. It’s a privilege to play this game, and I’m thankful for everyone has given me an opportunity. But when I die, hopefully in a state of grace and Saint Peter greets me at the gates, he’s not going to ask what your win-loss record was in 2023. He’s just going to how did you you know, how did you build the kingdom of heaven and I just being in a position like this, being a major league baseball player, and my religion being mocked in the realm of Major League Baseball, it only made sense to stick up for my truth,” he continued.
The presence of the drag queen mockery at the Dodges game also provoke a massive crowd of Catholic protestors who voiced their opposition to being egregiously mocked. “Los Angeles Dodgers honoured Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, an anti-Catholic drag group at its ‘pride night’ in front of an almost empty audience while hundreds of Christians, including Catholics and Christians from other denominations showed up outside the stadium to peacefully pray against the team’s decision. Dodgers has been budlighted!” Catholic reporter Sachin Jose wrote on X.
