A school district in Maryland, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), is Maryland’s most affluent school district. It’s also, perhaps unsurprisingly, Maryland’s wokest. That’s because it just unveiled a woke reading list that includes books that teach woke words like “intersex” and “drag queen” to young children, some of whom are as young as just 4 years old.
News on what that school district was up to with the woke reading list came from Fox News Digital, which reported that the list of books came out (no pun intended) when a PowerPoint presentation from the school district about its LGBTQ reading list was revealed.
The presentation was about how the school’s LGBTQ-inclusive books and reading list are inteded to “reduce stigmatization and marginalization of transgender and gender nonconforming students.”
According to Fox News Digital, the presentation said:
“All students deserve to see themselves in their school and classroom, including students who identify as LGBTQ+ and come from LGBTQ+ headed families and have family members that are a part of the LGBTQ+ community. There are no planned explicit lessons related to gender and sexuality, but these books do mean that LGBTQ+ identities will be made visible. Inclusive curricula support a student’s ability to empathize, connect, and collaborate with a diverse group of peers, and encourage respect for all.”
Adding to that, the same presentation said:
“No child, or adult, who does not agree with or understand another student’s gender identity or expression or their sexuality identity is asked to change how they feel about it.”
Fox News, in its report on the subject, added that
The book that MCPS has recommended for children in pre-kindergarten is “Pride Puppy,” which teaches terms like “intersex,” “drag king,” “drag queen” and “Marsha P. Johnson,” the late famed drag performer.
Well that school, the one teaching kids about drag queens and intersex…things is apparently also trying to keep out patriotic, pro-America books because those books “have an agenda.”
That news came out when Bethany Mandel, editor of the Heroes of Liberty book series, a series about certain American thinkers, showed Fox News Digital that the school district, MCPS, “declined to recommend three non-fiction children’s books that were donated to the school district by Heroes of Liberty Inc., which seeks to counter progressive literature favored by public schools.”
The books donated are about Thomas Sowell, Amy Coney Barrett, and Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. They were recommended for kids in grades 2 through 6.
But the school refused to recommend the books, including the one about one of America’s Founding Fathers!
Why? Because it detected an “agenda” in the books, saying that “the publisher has a stated mission of creating books with ‘the American values that made this country great.’”
MCPS also denied one of the books, the one about Justice Barrett, because “the publisher seems to have an agenda – publishing books about people with ‘American values’”
So the school district in America won’t use books because the books imply that America is great…sounds about right for a school teaching kids about drag queens.
