How are things going for the blue cities of America? Some of them are doing fine, but many are on the precipice of disaster thanks to soft-on-crime policies, out of control criminal elements controlling the streets, and anti-police rhetoric kicked into high gear following the death of George Floyd.
And so cities that once ranged from being America’s greatest cities to places that were at least fun to visit have turned into the closest America can come to Baghdad circa 2007, with criminals blasting away at each other and catching civilians in the crossfire as feckless government officials remain focused elsewhere or remain completely detached from the problem.
But some are worse than others and, though Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s blood-drenched “Chiraq” is often derided as America’s bloodiest city. In fact, it used to be outdone by St. Louis, America’s former murder capital. But now another city has won the dubious honor of being the murder capital of America: the Mississippi Delta’s den of iniquity, New Orleans.
Such is what Fox News Channel’s Watson reported on a recent segment regarding America’s crime crisis, noting that New Orleans is now the murder capital and, offering evidence of the out of control crime problem raging within the city, said:
“Homicide rate up 141% since 2019. Shootings are up 100%, armed robberies up 25%. Carjackings seeing the largest increase of 210% since 2019. This all coming at a time of struggle for the New Orleans police department. It’s got less than 1000 officers on the street. About 10% are retiring each year. The department is struggling to find new recruits.”
Fox News Digital reported on the situation as well in a report highlighting the shocking crime problem within the city, saying:
New Orleans has overtaken St. Louis as the murder capital of America as the city sees a 141% increase in homicides when compared to recent years.
According to data from the Metropolitan Crime Commission, an organization that tracks crime and also tries to bring it down, there have been 52 homicides per 100,000 residents as of Sept. 11.
In St. Louis, there have been almost 45 homicides per 100,000 residents as of Sept. 17, according to data from the St. Louis Police Department.
By comparison, there have been almost 18 homicides in Chicago per 100,000 residents and 3.5 in New York City.
Meanwhile, leaders in other states are taking the crime problem, one that seems to be raging out of control even more so now than when crime rates really began skyrocketing in 2020. One such leader is Florida governor Ron DeSantis, who has been shipping illegal immigrants out of his state.
Following his recent decision to send a few dozen illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard, the playground of the leftist elite, DeSantis warned that that was only the beginning, saying:
“Now we see, in New York and D.C., they used to beat their chests when Trump was in office, saying they are sanctuary jurisdictions. Then the minute Texas starts bussing there they get very bent out of shape about it…these are just the beginning efforts. We got an infrastructure in place now. There is going to be a lot more that’s happening.”
