Mariano Rivera, a legend from the New York Yankees and 2019 winner of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, spoke out on Tuesday, April 9, in favor of former President Donald Trump’s bid for the presidency. That came when he appeared on WABC Radio’s “Sid & Friends” with Sid Rosenberg, saying that he’s ready to vote for Trump over Biden and that he thinks Trump will do a superb job if elected in 2024.
As background, Mariano is originally from Panama and was signed by the Yankees in 1990. He debuted in the Major League in 1995, and over the next few seasons, established himself as a top relieving pitcher known mainly for a cut fastball and for coming onto the field toward the end of games with “Enter Sandman” playing. He was key to the success of the Yankees in the 90s and early 2000s, and was named the World Series MVP in 1999.
He was then honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2019. Trump, speaking about him and his faith at the time of the award, said, “Throughout Mariano’s incredible career, he remained a humble man with a deep Christian faith. The Lord doesn’t care about wealth or fame. The Lord cares about goodness and love in our hearts.”
In any case, speaking on WABC, Rivera said that he is a friend of former President Trump and that he plans on voting for him come November. He began, “President Trump, he’s my friend.” He continued, “I can’t deny that. I will tell that to anyone. Before he was the president, he was my friend. Because of that, I’m going to vote for him.” That came when Rivera said that he is not going “for the Right or the Left.” Instead, Rivera told his interviewer, he vote for whoever is doing “the right thing for the country.”
Former President Trump posted a clip of the interview and of Rivera’s being awarded the Presidential Medal of freedom on Truth Social. Watch that here:
Mike Tyson has said he will support Trump as well. That came when he spoke on a podcast with Patrick Bet David and Bet David said, “We were at the UFC fight in Miami. And you walked up with Trump. And that place lost their mind, when you guys walked up. I don’t know if you…?” Tyson told him, “People don’t like it, but Trump is the man. Trump is the man, he has his fan base, he has his supporters, and they’re gonna stick with him to the end.”
Bet David then asked Tyson, “How has he been to you over the years?” Tyson, remaining similarly positive about Trump, said, “I never had a bad moment with him.” Bet David, somewhat surprised, asked for clarification, “You never had a bad moment with him?” Tyson said, “No, no.” He added, “Became very…profited from him. It was just, great relationship.”And it was just off the hook. Barron is so smart… This kid is on top of his game, intellectually, at 17 years old.”
Bet David asked, “When did you guys…,” but Tyson cut him off, saying, “I just had dinner with him a week ago.” Bet David asked for details, saying, “Where were you guys, in Mar-a-Lago?” Tyson said, “Yeah, in Mar-a-Lago.” Then, when Bet David asked him, “How was that?” Tyson said, “It was awesome. Me, him, Barron, and his mother [Melania]. And it was just off the hook. Barron is so smart. The young kid…he’s 6′ 8″. This guy is on top of his game, intellectually, that is, at 17 years old.” Then, when asked, “Was Melania there?” Tyson said, “Yes, Melania was there as well.” And, when asked, “How was your interaction with her? What is she like?” Tyson said, “Awesome. It’s like, the president’s wife, the First Lady.”
