Given that burglars and thieves are rarely the brightest among us, it is really saying something that this home intruder showed remarkable incompetence when he chose to attempt a break-in at the residence of Jim Duggan.
If that name rings a bell, that’s because you likely watched him fighting in primetime under the name “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan. The WWE legend and former Royal Rumble Champion shared his recounting of the events that unfolded and a thank you message to first responders in a Tweet on Saturday.
Thank you to the @KershawCountySC Sheriff's Office and thank you to my fans and friends for the well wishes!https://t.co/DtR7TcnI9V pic.twitter.com/Jek2eVLjzx

“We would like to thank the Kershaw Country Sheriff’s Department for their prompt and professional response last week. A man who we had never seen before climbed our fence, ran through our yard to our front door, and was pounding on our glass doors.
Before we could get to the door, he opened it and fell into our house. I held him at gunpoint while Debra called 911. We are safe with no damage.
Thanks to everyone for the concern and well wishes!”
Instead of the patented 2×4 lumber that Hacksaw used to enter the ring with, he was far more sensible in his choice of tool for home defense. As wonderful a story as it would have been, nothing beats a fireman when it comes to protecting your life and the lives of your loved ones.
Duggan spoke to Wrestling Inc about the matter and gave an interesting take on the events and the motives behind the break-in, and they had the following to say.
“According to Duggan, the intruder was fleeing individuals related to a separate legal matter, leading him to seek refuge; the intruder reportedly pounded on multiple other doors before climbing over the Duggans’ fence and entering through their unlocked door. Duggan did not press charges when asked, letting the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Department apprehend the intruder. “
The Duggans also heard shouting throughout the neighborhood at that time and worried that there might be more than one intruder in the area. They also noted that once things quieted down a little bit, the intruder still was hysterical and afraid that people nearby were coming to do him harm.
This is not Hacksaw’s only close call this year, he also completes radiation and is in remission after a bout with prostate cancer. He posed for pictures with nurses and doctors before ringing a celebratory bell in a post shared by On This Day in WWE. He shared this message before ringing the bell.

“I just want to say thank you to the doctors, the nurses, and the technicians that actually saved my life. I want to thank my wife and my daughters who stuck with me through all this. Most of all, I want to thank you, folks, out there, that I’ve been able to share this with.”
