Among the incidents that have captured the public’s attention the most so far in 2024, or at least the Twitter-using public’s attention, was when a collection of young men from a fraternity at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill stood up for the America flag and kept pro-Palestine protesters from tearing it down, even as the mob threw objects at them, including rocks and sticks. On Friday, May 3, Fox News Channel’s White House Correspondent, Peter Doocy, asked KJP what President Biden’s stance is on the matter, with KJP not giving a straight answer.
Making the incident even more awesome was that, after they bravely stood up for the flag, a GoFundMe fundraiser was created to help them raise a huge party to celebrate. The “Throw ‘Em a Rager” GoFundMe then went viral on X and received a huge number of donations, eventually bringing in hundreds of thousands of dollars for the pro-America young men. Even Bill Ackman donated to the fund, giving them $10,000.
Asking KJP about that incident and how President Biden feels about protests that have involved tearing down the American flag during the White House Press Briefing on Friday, May 3, Doocy asked, “My last one. At UNC-Chapel Hill this week, a group of fraternity brothers saved an American flag from an angry mob of protesters. There is now a GoFundMe where people can donate to throw them a rager. It has raised more than half a million dollars. Would President Biden donate?”
KJP laughed and fired back, “You never disappoint, my friend.” Doocy then added context to the question by donating that President Biden donates to “many different causes,” noting, “We saw it in his tax returns.” KJP, interrupting him as he added that, said, again, “You never disappoint.”
KJP then blandly spoke in support of protesting without mentioning the flag, saying, “I’ll say this, because this — there is a — there is actually a real — a real point in your question that I will address, which is — and — and I — you know, just to reiterate what we’ve said over and over again: Americans have — and I just said this moments ago, so I’ll just reiterate this — all Americans have the — the right to peacefully protest.”
Getting to the flag incident, she admitted that there’s no right to forcefully tear down the flag, telling Doocy, “It is not right to forceful- — forcefully take down the American flag to replace it with another flag. It is not right. And so — and so, I just wanted to — to make that clear as well. All right, Peter?”
Left unaddressed was the matter of donating to the rager fund. So Doocy asked about that again, saying, “So, a donation — what about, like, a call to thank them for saving the flag?” She declined to give a straight answer, telling Doocy, “Look, protecting the American flag is admirable. I’ll leave it there, Peter.”
