In the wake of being thrown out of the House Chamber by the Sergeant-at-Arms, who was obeying the command of Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA), Rep. Al Greene (D-TX), appeared uncaring about his removal and justified it by claiming he was drawing attention to Trump’s dastardly plans. However, he lied about what those plans are, making the whole thing even more ridiculous.
As background, what happened was that, as Trump began his speech, the Democratic bloc of the event refused to be polite and listen to his speech with anything approaching manners. Instead, they booed, hissed, and generally filled the chamber with raucous noise that distracted from the president’s State of the Union address.
Speaker Mike Johnson then warned them that, if they continued, he would eject them from the chamber and from the address so that they couldn’t cause chaos any longer. Most abided by that, at least for the time being, except for Rep. Al Greene. He, standing as Trump spoke, shook his cane and interrupted. Speaker Johnson then ordered the Sergeant-at-Arms to remove him from the chamber, a command promptly complied with.
After that incident, Rep. Greene spoke to the media about what happened and justified it by saying that he was warning the country about Trump’s supposed plan to cut Social Security. He said, lying through his teeth, “I’ll accept the punishment. It’s worth it to let people know that there’s some of us who are going to stand up to against this president’s desire to cut Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.”
Commenting on a post from Benny Johnson about those claims, commenters correctly noted that his claims were utterly false, and that in reality Trump and DOGE are protecting those programs by booting illegal immigrants off the rolls. One commenter, for example, said, “What an f’n clown! The ONLY social security, Medicare, & Medicaid being cut is to the ILLEGAL ALIENS!!!”
Similarly, another commenter noted, “Pretty sure that most of America has figured out that the left distorts the truth on these matters. Cutting medicaid: removing illegal aliens from the rolls Cutting social security: removing illegal aliens from the rolls Cutting medicare: removing bureacracy bloat GFY”
Still others, sounding off on the fraud and corruption Rep. Greene is seemingly fighting for, said, “He’s fighting a straw man. President Trump is doing none of those things. He’s only cutting the corruption and abuse associated with them!!” and “Wow, that is so ignorant. No one is cutting Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security it is the exact opposite! It is saving them! The fraud is over!”

President Trump, for his part, vowed during the speech to effect legislation that would end taxes on Social Security for seniors, indicating that quite the opposite of what Rep. Greene was claiming is true: he wants seniors to get the full benefit of the program, not strip it away. Trump said, “No tax on tips. No tax on overtime. And, no tax on Social Security for our great seniors.”
