“Worse Than Anything In Idiocracy”: Fetterman Stumbles Through Speech With Biden

Recently, Sen. John Fetterman attempted to give a speech at an event this past Saturday with President Joe Biden, with an emphasis on “attempted.”  The senator was speaking in Philadelphia, wearing his typical outfit consisting of baggy shorts, sneakers, and a Carhartt sweatshirt, the quintessential look of a successful politician.

The topic of the speech is difficult to discern through listening to Fetterman speak, but it pertained to the reconstruction efforts of Interstate-95 in Pennsylvania.  The senator was updating Americans about the work to ensure the highway would reopen safely for travel.

Fetterman stated, “And now I’m standing next to the president again next to a collapsed bridge here and he is here to commit to work with the governor and the [delegation] to make sure we get this fixed quick and fast.” He continued, “This is a president that is committed to [infrastructure] and then on top of that, that the jewel kind of a law of the infraction bill that is going to make sure that there’s going to be bridges all across like this all across America getting rebuilt.”

The short message was transcribed as well as possible, but the senator made countless linguistic errors in under a minute.  For example, he pronounced the word delegation as “delegedation” and infrastructure as “infructadure”. Furthermore, it sounds like Fetterman struggles to finish his sentences as he repeatedly stumbles over himself.  Without context, it would be extremely difficult to understand what Fetterman is trying to convey in the brief clip.

Sen. Fetterman clearly does not have all his faculties, even making Joe Biden look coherent.  The whole time during the clip, Biden looks just as confused as the rest of us, trying to process what the senator is trying to say.  When looking at the clip of this speech, we are reminded the president of the United States, and a powerful senator have questionable mental capabilities at best.

The whole thing looks like a scene from the movie “Idiocracy,” a comedic movie about the perpetual intellectual decline of humanity.  The Twitter user above who shared the clip even suggested it was “worse than anything in idicocracy.”  This makes sense considering these are democratically-elected individuals, therefore being a reflection of society.

Twitter users in the comments section agreed with the assertion, with one user pointing out that Fetterman is talking about infrastructure when he can’t even build a sentence.  Another user reflected on the state of the country, commenting, “Yeah no, we’re not in the collapse of the republic phase. This is late phase empire degeneration.”  Another person voiced their confusion on the senator’s inability to dress professionally, “Why don’t they dress him in a suit? I get his thing was looking like a schlub, but now it makes him even more of an embarrassment (which I get is the point).”

Earlier this year, Fetterman was checked into a hospital to be treated for mental issues.  Furthermore, the senator also carries around a closed captioning device after suffering from issues related to a stroke he had on the campaign trail.
