In a tragic example of woke values gone wrong, Derek Lopez, a 27-year-old Illinois State University graduate student and teaching assistant, was arrested for disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property after flipping a Turning Point USA (TPUSA) table and tearing down flyers on campus.
For context, dramatic footage captured Lopez, making wild claims about Jesus before the act and sarcastically waving goodbye after engaging in his horrifyingly inappropriate attack on the TPUSA table. According to sources close ot the incident, he also harassed other student groups.
That footage shows the ideologue gesturing wildly, while ranting about Jesus as he vandalized the TPUSA table. “Well, you know, Jesus did it, so you know I gotta do it, right? “Derek Lopez screeched before flipping the table. Before leaving the scene, he sarcastically added, “Thanks, guys, have a great day.”
Reacting to this shameful display, Police Chief Aaron Woodruff reiterated strong support for the First Amendment as well as public safety. “We are committed to protecting the First Amendment rights as well as the safety of everyone in our campus community,” the officer noted.
Concluding his comments, Woodruff declared, “We encourage all members of our community to learn more about free speech rights and responsibilities at Illinois State University, including constructive ways to respond when encountering speech they may disagree with.”

Unfortunately, this is far from the only case of anti-TPUSA bias on American college campuses. As we reported, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga overruled its Student Government and approved the TPUSA chapter as a Registered Student Organization.
Announcing the decision, Vice Chancellor Jay Blackman made it clear that the woke mob would no longer be able to block the formation of a TPUSA chapter. “As part of the process of becoming a Registered Student Organization at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, the Dean of Students’ Office has completed its review of a group of students’ application to establish a chapter of Turning Point USA on campus,” the administrator said.
Citing the justification for this fair decision, he put the woke student government back in its place. Laying out the case clearly, Blackman said, “The Dean of Students’ Office has determined that Turning Point USA is approved as a Registered Student Organization. While the Student Government Association may voice opinions, recognition of student organizations is determined by the UTC Dean of Students and Chancellor. Turning Point USA has been authorized in accordance with university policy and the law.”
On social media, courageous lawyer Robert Barne, who was a significant part of the adverse reaction to the school’s restriction of TPUSA, said, “My hometown school — @UTChattanooga — apparently told students they cannot form a campus chapter of @TPUSAdue to false claims of ‘hate speech.’ If this is not reversed immediately, I will sue the school for the students, and win. And UTC will pay the bill. Fix it now!”
Concluding his comments on the affair after the administration reversed course and decided to back down to the TPUSA patriots, Barnes stated, “Many thanks to all those who spoke out & special thanks to AAG Dhillon, who publicly voiced support for us. That was the gamechanger.”
