Proving that no amount of past failures will ever deter the Hollywood Wokerati from pushing abhorrent content on fans, undermining previous lore and tradition in the process, HBO Max’s latest abomination features a dreadful Scooby-less Scooby-Doo spinoff replete with unnecessarily forced diversity.
Premiering January 12th, the opening episode got demolished by viewers, garnering an abysmal 9% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and just 2.5 out of 10 at IMDB.
Post Millennial headlined its report on the show by writing “Woke Scooby Doo spin-off Velma tanks as series ditches Scoob, Shaggy for lesbian lead.”
The show, titled Velma and focusing on the reimagined “brains” of the previous version, is the product of former The Office alumna Mindy Kaling, whose career has been built off 4th-wave feminism. Women can never do anything wrong and men are constant and disappointing failures.
It’s not exactly the recipe for a winning series to cram woke agendas into a beloved children’s series.
One reviewer wrote that it was “absolutely bad. absolutely bad. The Scooby-Doo franchise didn´t deserve such cruelty” and another noted, “Unnecessarily sexual, especially for what has always been a children’s show; Usually there was enough appropriate innuendo for adults to find humor, but this one really misses the spot. Sad that they always have to ruin an already successful program instead of just creating their own show.”
Writing on Twitter, another review summed up the self-billed adult comedy series as offering “nothing humorous” and being worse than even predicted.
“So far, Velma is as embarrassingly bad as we all predicted it would be. It has nothing humorous, original or inciteful to offer, and the only time it surprised me was when it was occasionally even worse than I’d predicted. Don’t even bother hate-watching it. It’s not worth it,” the comment said.
Describing the spin-off, Variety paints a dreadful picture of what the few viewers of the show can expect. Rather than have a fun gang of friends and their quirky dog solve mysteries, it instead delves into a who’s who of updated representation and woke themes.
“Velma is Indian American, Norville (Shaggy) is Black, and Daphne appears to be of Asian descent, though she’s the adopted daughter of married lesbian detectives Donna and Linda (Jane Lynch and Wanda Sykes). Only Fred retains his identity as the boy next door in the all-white neighborhood, and much is made of his privilege throughout the series,” Variety wrote.
Many negative reviews took umbrage at the inclusion of an overtly sexualized tone, featuring a lesbian relationship of Velma – despite the titular character being just a teenager in the show.
Another Twitter user pointed out this disturbing theme: “The velma show being set in highschool and being this sexual is so crazy when you know Mindy Kaling made the sex lifes of college girls. like Just set it in college wtf??
Yet another summarized the entire problem with the show: “Bottom line, it’s not the mystery gang. It feels hollow, and it’s another show about high schoolers (Velma is FIFTEEN here) doing drug and getting in sexual situations because it’s an ‘adult’ show.”
And though Fred retained his straight white male identity, he was reduced to an all-too-predictable loser whose main attributes are rich idiot with “teeny widdle privates.”
All in all, there is near-unanimous consent that Mindy Kaling’s woke, self-sering disaster of a show misses the mark entirely. Being woke is enough of an issue; featuring young kids doing drugs and engaging in explicit sexual behavior is just another layer of leftist toxicity.
