Infamous Democrat and irritating Trump critic Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) is currently running to be the governor of California, and vowed during an MS NOW interview to revoke driver’s licenses from masked federal ICE agents and prosecute them for alleged crimes like kidnapping if they operate without identification.
This unprecedented move escalates tensions over a California law banning ICE masks, which is currently on hold amid a Trump administration lawsuit citing federal supremacy and agent safety concerns from threats and doxxing. Critics, including White House and DOJ officials, slammed Swalwell’s arguments as unconstitutional and reckless, referencing his past ties to an alleged Chinese spy.
Starting off his wild comments, Swalwell alleged, “You have immense powers as governor of California, and your responsibility is to protect the most vulnerable in the state. So if the president is going to send ICE agents to chase immigrants through the fields where they work, what I’m going to do is make sure that they take off their masks and show their faces.”
Continuing his bizarre comments, he demanded that “[ICE Agents] show their identification, and if they commit crimes that they’re going to be charged with crimes, if it’s falsely imprisoning people, if it’s kidnapping, if it’s assault, battery, they’re going to be held accountable.”
Doubling down on his threats, Swalwell added, “I also think if the governor has the ability to issue driver’s licenses to people in California, if you’re going to wear a mask and not identify yourself, you’re not going to be eligible to drive a vehicle in California.”
Firing back, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson joked, “Fang Fang’s former lover wants to give drivers licenses to criminal illegal aliens and simultaneously punish law enforcement officers for enforcing the law? What an absolute clown.”
Likewise, Bill Essayli, the first assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, dismissed these arguments. “In the meantime, California has agreed to put the law on hold and not enforce its unconstitutional mask ban, which is designed to allow radical leftists to dox federal agents enforcing immigration laws,” he declared.

Issuing her own condemnation, Harmeet K. Dhillon, the assistant attorney general for civil rights at the Justice Department, argued, “What’s even dumber about this is that Swalwell has a law degree and he even once made a living as a prosecutor. He knows about federal supremacy and that it is not possible for a state prosecutor to do any of the things he is promising. Oh, and he won’t ever be governor, either.”
When news of the Democrats’ threat broke on social media, conservatives were irate. “Who is going to vote for that farting POS ? Rep. Eric Swalwell vows to strip driver’s licenses from masked ICE agents if the governor,” one commentator noted.
Building on this point, another added, “But, Fang Fang Swalwell is OK for Illegal Aliens driving drunk and killing Americans Swalwell says he’ll strip driver’s licenses from ICE officers who wear masks if governor.” Similarly annoyed, one comment read, “This is so maddening. What is wrong with all of you people? This is divisive and dangerous rhetoric. Swalwell says he’ll strip driver’s licenses from ICE officers who wear masks if governor.”
