When the woke mob doesn’t get its way, you’re sure to hear about it. This time, the Wokes are kicking and screaming following HBO’s announcement that JK Rowling will be an executive producer of their newest show.
Rowling has been staunchly opposed to transgenderism in the past, making her books a lightning rod for cancelation attempts from the left. However, the quality of her work has shined through, and she continues to profit from the Harry Potter franchise. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the new series will be released over a ten-year period and will remain “faithful” to the books. Given the extra screen time that the show will have compared to the movies, there will be far more time to include details that had to be omitted in the films.
Chairman and CEO of HBO & Max Content Casey Bloys explained that the company is not going to involve itself in the political views of the author and will focus on creating the best show possible, according to a quote shared by Breitbart:
“J.K. is an executive producer, and her insights will be helpful. We are in the Harry Potter business. The TV show is new and exciting, but we’ve been in the Harry Potter business for 20 years; this isn’t a new decision. We’re comfortable being in the Potter business. J.K. is a very online conversation.”
“It’s very nuanced and complicated and not something we’re going to get into. Our priority is what’s onscreen. The Harry Potter story is incredibly affirmative and positive about love and acceptance, and that’s our priority, what’s on the screen.”
John Nolte of Breitbart pointed out that this may be a sign that the left’s cancel culture is no longer exhibiting the same stranglehold that it once had over the opinions of Hollywood stars. He wrote:
“To her eternal credit, Rowling has refused to back down. Had she taken even a tiny step back, the bullies would have buried her. Rowling hasn’t. She has stood her ground admirably and forced people to choose between her science and decency or the other side’s fascistic lunacy. Now the tide has turned in her favor.”
Rowling released her own statement following the news that she would be a part of the upcoming series. She said:
“Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long-form television series.”
There is certainly more to come in the lead-up to the debut of the Harry Potter series, as more and more activists try to pile onto the JK Rowling hate train. Such is life as a high-profile figure in the entertainment space. Many fans seem to think that they can control the thoughts and opinions of anyone who creates films and tv for large audiences, and nothing makes the woke mob angrier than a creator who refuses to back down to their demands.
