In yet another awful case of someone on the left celebrating the assassination of Turning Point USA founder and close Trump ally Donald Trump, a judge in Michigan was caught celebrating Kirk’s death online, linking past comments he has made about safteyism and gun control to his tragic slaying in Utah.
The judge at issue is 45th District Court Judge Jaimie Powell Horowitz. She was elected to her present position in 2020, and is known as a staunch leftist, as was shown by her posts about Charlie Kirk, which were not just about him but also seemingly in favor of gun control and abridgement of the Second Amendment.
Her post came on Wednesday, September 10, the day of Mr. Kirk’s horrible assassination. In a post made late that night, Judge Horowitz posted an old clip of Kirk explaining that the Second Amendment is worth protecting, as the Founders wanted, even if some deaths occur from tragic gun violence, because the right to keep and bear arms is so important to a free society.
In the clip that Judge Horowitz posted, which came from a 2023 Turning Point USA event, Kirk said, “I think it’s worth it to have the cost of unfortunately some gun deaths every year, so we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God given rights. It’s a prudent deal, a rational deal.” Captioning the clip, Judge Horowitz wrote, “Talk about dying for your beliefs.” Below is the since-deleted post:

Vance Patrick, the chair of the Oakland County Republican Party, fired back at Judge Horowitz after her comments came to his attention, releasing a statement in which he described what she said as “disgusting” and demanded she resign. He began, “Comments like the ones from Judge Horowitz are disgusting.”
Continuing, Mr. Patrick got to his demand that she resign and an explanation of what the comments showed about her character, which is critical for a judge, saying, “Any attempt to justify or lessen the severity of the assassination of Charlie Kirk is a clear indicator of the lack of character and moral fiber of that person. Judge Horowitz should resign immediately to help protect the integrity of our court system.”

Judge Horowitz, however, refused, and insisted that it was a good thing that she had resurrected public thought about the comments, saying, local media reports, “The fact that Mr. Kirk — in his own words — had said these kinds of deaths are worth it to protect our Second Amendment rights, as if it’s just something we’re willing to accept for gun rights, I think that’s a quote people should really think about.”
Continuing, the judge insisted that there should be more gun control because “gun deaths” are not worth it, ignoring that the assassin in this case appears to have used a hunting rifle of the sort that nearly no gun control proposals would ban, saying, “I hope people will think about his quote, and whether or not gun deaths are worth it for Second Amendment rights. I certainly don’t think his death or others’ death is worth it.”
