Liberal comedian Kathy Griffin recently expressed worry that former President Donald Trump would go after comedians if he wins the 2024 Presidential election. Griffin echoes the same sentiment shared by others in Hollywood, that Trump would persecute his opponents in the media, a claim which Trump has denied.
During a recent interview, Griffin claimed, “He’s going to pick us off, one by one, like bowling pins, and I’m not kidding and I’m not being paranoid.” She continued, “I’m a D-lister, he’s not going to get to me on day one, but he’ll get to me, trust me,” She then said, “He’s got a list. I’ve known this guy for 25 years, maybe 30. He’s so petty that he lives for this. He doesn’t want to be President or do any president-ing.”
The 63-year-old comedian then predicted that Trump would first target prominent late-night talk show hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Jon Stewart, followed by Rosie O’Donnell. Griffin even claimed that Trump would be “much crazier” than he was during his first presidency.
“If he gets re-elected, he’ll go after Jimmy Kimmel, he’ll go after Jon Stewart, all the name ones, but he’ll go after Rosie O’Donnell. That’s all he’s going to do all day,” she said. “He’ll have press conferences about it. He’s so much crazier than he was the first go-round,” Griffin continued in her opinion of what would happen if Trump wins.
Griffin gained notoriety for her 2017 photograph showing her holding a replica of Trump’s severed head which sent shockwaves throughout the media. The grotesque stunt was slammed by many for its gruesome nature and the possible implications that it might be a call for political violence. According to Griffin, she was nearly arrested for conspiracy to assassinate the president of the United States.
The photographer who helped create the photograph in 2017, Tyler Shields, previously said Griffin showed disregard toward the threat of jail time over the controversial image. “Fortunately, we have freedom of speech [in the first amendment], and all art is generally protected by these things, but again, this was [Griffin’s] first thought, ‘Will you bail me out of jail?’ You know, again, it wasn’t, ‘I don’t want to do this because I might go to jail.’ It was like, ‘Well, I’m gonna do it and whatever happens, happens.’”
The American Tribune previously reported on comments from Griffin in which she indicated that she has “been through hell and back” after the controversial Trump stunt with the severed head. During an appearance on “The View” she outlined the toll the last few years have taken on her. She stated, “I’ve been through hell and back people. Hell and back.” Whoopi Goldberg then said, “But you are back and that’s important.”
“This is your first tour in six years,” Goldberg added. “Six years I was out of work because of that…” Griffin exclaimed before adding, “There I said what it was, all about a picture I took, making fun of the president. What you’re supposed to do as a comic.” Watch Griffin’s appearance on “The View” below:
